If I buy an exact keyword match domain in a competitive market, how long would it take for the domain to be listed (for this exact match) in top 3 in Google? Or would it be ever listed due to competition?

I am also wondering the same thing and some info would be appreciated

Unfortunatly it takes much more than an emd to rank in google your backlinks are another important source. Your domain name will help but the effect can be minimal if your content and backlinks are poor. You will see many authority sites outrank emds in rankings.

You'll get indexed by Google when one of their bots crawls your site. How long it will take before you hit the top 3 spots will depend more on your SEO strategy and your competition. EMDs help, just don't count on it to rank your site to the top.

EMDs are still useful even after Google's EMD update but without putting quality content on your site, it's not going to get you to the top 3 spots.

EMD's are not as important as they use to be, but still can add a little help. If I were you, I would be more focused on getting as much quality content as possible, and figuring out a good link strategy. The BST section has tons of options for you.

Exact match domain name will only take you so far. Sure it will give you a certain edge but the days of ranking first (just) for exact match are over long ago. Google made sure of that in several updates.

You still have a good start when you start with exact match but your work is ahead of you. Don't expect Google to bow to your exact match domain for its mere appearance as a relevant source of information because i have a feeling they wont.

Cheers
