Importance of continually updated content?

How important is it to keep updating a website? If I have 50 articles, would it be better to spread the posting of them out over 6 months? Or should I post them all as soon as possible?

Which site would get more visitors the first 1 month, 6 months, and 12 months, if everything else was equal.

Site 1:
50 article all posted/advertised in the first week and then left to do it's thing.

Site 2:
20 articles posted/advertised in the first week, and then an article every other day for the next 60 days with no further advertising.

I would say look at how often googlebot is hitting you and go from there. I would do 1 per day at the most.

I would say site 2, it seems better in my experience to spread things out.

Post 1-2 articles a day. It is a lot better.

this is what you do.

Turn off all the pingning and linking. Upload all your articles, and when you upload the last article turn on pinging. BAAM watch the google bot go ape shit on your site. I got indexed much more faster than this for my keyword (with a competiton of ~300 million) i think im like 3th and 4th for "choice direct" in yahoo and msn i havent updated tht site in forever

Spread it out so you don't have to keep coming up with more content.
