Right now im looking up a domain I want to buy, and I see every extension is available.
Do you all normally buy up all of the available extensions, or just grab the domain?

Thanks

Depends on the concept you have in mind...

If your going for BRAND I would recommend getting the .net and .org and probably a few others.

If your building a few affiliate websites or other small concepts I wouldn't bother.

Basically, If you feel that someone could confuse your brand / visitors and you need that trust then get several extensions.

However, If you ever decide to copyright your product/brand in the future then the owners of the other extensions won't be able to provide similar services anyway.

.com will always be the preferred extension because this is what people are used to seeing and typing. Yes, forward the .net to the .com. But it really all comes down to how popular your gossip site becomes. If it's any good and begins to get lots and lots of it wont really matter.

its actually for a eCommerce site.
Thanks guys.

I usually buy just one domain, .com preferably, and I don't see any benefit in buying .net too unless I could make a profit by selling it.

Taking away the emd advantage of your competitor could be one benifit.

What's the verdict on registration period? Google values the length of this right, like more authority for domains registered for 5-10 years? If that's the case then one might be inclined to buy all tlds for 10 years! Sounds like a ploy by the registrars...

Prices for good quality dot com domain names will only go up in value in the next few years. It does not matter how many new extensions are launched or how many other gimmicks are invented, people are so used to the dot com that this won't change.

I think it's not necessary to buy all TLD like .net, .org or us
There are much Companys who will autobuy as simlar domain if your pr went higher. This Companys block these pages from buyout and so this wouldnt be a problem for your business.

I usually buy the best couple of variations and then lock them up in my blog network. I gain links from a site in my niche - and no-one can register it and use against me

If it's good domain name I usually buy kom and few others and redirect them to the kom domain

I only ever buy .com but I am about to purchase a network of old .net sites......am i mad ?

For SEO purpose, it's good if you buy all TLDs available. As if you get famous in future, any of the competitor can purchase another TLD of your domain and that website may appear on the first page of google or may be above your website and redirects to his own created website. That's why I prefer to get all TLDs. In fact, for my case, I also registered all similar names ;-).
