IMing to build your MLM downline.?

Has anyone ever tried building an MLM downline using Internet Marketing tactics with success?

I was contemplating joining a Health niche MLM company so I can market to both the bizz opp and the health niche but NOONE talks about doing this..
I understand my method wouldn't be replicable for the people I sign up, but I would find a company that has a GREAT online training academy or whatever you have it to train the people how to sell it the "typical" way.

I just see HUGH potential in this considering the reach I'd have on the net.

Perhaps it would be best to just advertise in my city so I could do presentations face to face.
Or maybe since I have years of experience with phone sales I could do it over the phone using leads I generate.

I used to do a lot of MLM in the past and saw good success but I didn't follow the companies friends and family crap cause that won't make you a dime.

They say that to cover their ass if someone gets pissed. I used a lot of really great methods to convert people.

I would also need help with this. I do get leads, so I guess people are interested - No free gifts, I just play a video about the company and product and have a button at the bottom saying "Click here to get contacted about this opportunity" - So I do send emails, but no conversion so far... Anybody can help?
