Does imgur pay reddit to be an officially approved image host on the website? Lately all my posts in much of the bigger subreddits have gotten deleted after a few minutes, and I'm not using any pop up ads, filling the page with ads or intersial ads.

well dont think so, me and my friends using imgur all the time on reddit, and no problem so far...

I know imgur is allowed, but it seems like reddit only likes it when ppl use imgur. Its almost impossible to have a image link for up for more then 5 minutes if its not hosted on imgur.

Reddit has a huge history with Imgur. Imgur was created because of Reddit. They used to use other image hosting sites but they were full of ads and buggy. Then a redditor created Imgur and it was the answer to most of their problems. Since it is incredibly simple to use and a redditor created it they feel a need to always use it. This causes them to now downvote every image hosting link other than Imgur.

This is correct, imgur was born on Reddit. I always go to Reddit and there are other image hosts used. You may get downvoted if you aren't directly linking to the image itself.

I believe Imgur was created by a Reddit user for easier image hosting and it just took off on Reddit

There is nothing wrong with ads, If it wasn't for ads you would have to be paying for the content you see.

I found out that some websites such as pornbb, make imagehosts pay them in order for them to be allowed. So it wouldn't surprise me that reddit is doing it,they are owned by Advance Publications as a direct subsidiary(no longer under conde nast). And the company is trying to maximize profits in other parts of their business such as nola.com and the Times-Picayune. Reddit counts for over 16% of the traffic that,so it would not be that hard to get them to pay a % of the income that they are generating imgur.

Any of you know if photos on imgur can be used on tumblr blogs or elsewhere, concerning copyright issues?

You started a thread to ask for something, then you get the correct answer -> Imgur was created FOR reddit and By redditors. And then after you got the answer, you answer what you believe is probably happening. I mean, dude... people already told you the truth, not what they believe...

You can use them on tumblr blogs and wherever you want ;) no problem.. been there, done that. Maybe you are trying to connect imgur with tumblr because of the Plugrush + tumblr method that everyone is using these days? If that is, good thinking... if i'm wrong, well... there you have a money making method:P
