I'm starting Over I need a new game plan--plz help

So I lost my Job at the end of may and I was freaking over joyed . . . .I hated that Job and was looking forward to finally having a chance to build a business in IM. I hit the ground running with my last check and I actually commissioned some articles to be written and sold them as a wso. I made a few sales doing that and was looking forward to my next venture, however I over estimated the speediness of unemployment approving my case so i overspent and got into financial straights and desperation mode . . . . .looking for the fast buck.
Which of course didn't come. So I've spent the last 2 months in this situation.

Fortunately I just secured a job working from home for a software company
making 15 bucks an hour or about $2400 a month. I want to parlay this into a 10-20k a month business. Hopefully via affiliate marketing and product creation. I realize the need to really dig in and build a business . . . I also subscribe to the principle of working smarter not harder so I want to get tools to automate any thing that I can. I would love to be getting some of those big checks.

What should I be investing in to automate my biz. What Should my focus be?

Congrats on your job (that changes everything for you doesn't it?) and in my opinion you've got the right attitude. Find what works for you (meaning is profitable and keeps your interest) and can be scaled up as desired to reach your goal.

My best suggestion is always learn everything about RSS that you can. How to use it for promoting your site via RSS Directories you can submit to, the feeds you get at social bookmarking sites can also be useful for building an outward link funnel--as can author's feeds from article directories... my favorite tool for automating this stuff is R$$ $ubmit (on BHW somewhere)

Also, how you can use RSS for content creation. Not just pulling feeds from other sites and reposting full articles on your pages, that'll get you filtered for dup content, and don't bother fucking with automated rewriting crap either as it'll hurt your site with real visitors--but grabbing small chunks of keyword related content from several feeds and mashing them together on your page so you end up with a large page of keyword rich content created from a bunch of small pieces off of a bunch of different sources is an awesome method. Add a single paragraph of unique text too and you've really got something the SE bots will crave.

A good mashup page can reach #1 with the search engines (I have several that do right now), they love them and G00gle even offers tools for creating them to webmasters. No duplicate content filters grab this because they compare full page source vs. full page source and since a mashup is made from multiple data feeds there's almost no similarity to any other full pages. Think about how Technorati and Digg category pages look, those are perfect mashup pages of related content that can and usually does rank well in SERPs.

PHP 5 has a library of functions that makes working with RSS feeds and building mashups really easy, just look into the functions of SimpleXML.

Always remember to credit sources and link to originals when creating mashups, but it's perfectly fine (maybe a little BH) to style those links to not look like links (black color and no underlines) and add nofollow tags to them so your page doesn't leak.

Regardless of what you're doing, you should be able to include RSS into it and I swear at least half of my monthly traffic and income is a result of some use of RSS feeds in my sites and promotion efforts.

Don't put your eggs in one basket. If your start making money don't think it will last forever. Once you have something that you can put on autopilot take the spare time and focus on another gameplan. Rinse and repeat.

lol I quit my job as a insurance advisor before I ended up being made redundant with was almost a guarantee the way the company heading. Funny thing is i've never been happier. Good luck and don't just rely on IM keep working till your confident enough and have enough income to get out of being an employee
