Hi,

I am a fourteen year old French guy who lives in the US. My parents absolutely want me to go to university as they think that even if I do IM, having a degree will be a "back up" in case I fail. Which university(ies) do you recommend for IM? Or which majors/degrees? I would preferably like to go to a university outside the US as they are way cheaper and living anywhere in the world would not be a problem for me. I am really hesitating between business oriented schools and programming oriented schools.

P.S. Pretty sure some of you are gonna say shit like "don't think about college yet, you're only 14!", well the truth is I'm in tenth grade so college is in two years ...

Computer Science is the way to go mate. Come and study here in the UK, we are great for computer science courses :). When i first started IM, i thought it would make me a steady income so i don't need to work or study at uni. Everyone here would most certainly have a primary source of income other that IM for obvious reasons such as the incident in the last couple of days. Good luck man, but dont think about money too much right now especially at 14 years old.

Thanks for the tip but I'm pretty sure UK is pretty expensive as well, what unis do you recommend?

I'd agree - Computer Science

Truth is college is a waste of time for IM. That's the beauty of IM, is if you put the same focus, effort, time and finances you can be far more successful then those with a degree.

My friends are all locked into a miserable job, working crazy hours, and earning much less than I am. Most hate their careers, and aren't utilizing the degrees they paid for.

At the end of the day, you need to do what you are passionate about. Not what your parents are passionate about. I can't think of too many of my friends that are happy with where they are AND followed their parents passion.

100% what I think and I tried to explain to my parents so I guess the only way I can opt out of college is to be making 5 figures a month by 2014. It's going to be hard but I think it's worth trying because I'm pretty sure a degree will be useless. Also my parents don't give a shit about where I go to college and what job I do as long as I have a degree. They just want me to not be broke and think that college is a guarantee that I won't be.

If you want to be involved in web design, dealing with clients and what not, there is a degree out there ''e commerce'' it can be done online.

Look into it, its very specific to IM

Goodluck :)

Although I think CS is the right choice as well, if you're not interested in that maybe look at schools to see if they offer a degree in social media marketing or even marketing in general. I see lots of guys doing well with SMM and if you're a great seller you can just leverage others who are proficient in other things.

going to uni is not all about the degree, its about learning about life!

don't let anyone convince you a degree is worth shit, thats total bollocks you WILL learn loads and not all related to the subject you are studying PLUS you will make loads of friends and contacts.

You are only 14 don't wish your life away you will NEVER get it back.

go to uni/colleage enjoy yourself and be young, stop worrying about money all the time trust me there are plenty of years for that later

I see this all over the forum but I'm not sure you understand. I don't worry about money. I just like IM and IM involves making money so it's not that I'm worrying about money, just that I like IM.
