Hi. Ok so Ive not been a member long at all, have not contributed , really.Though I have tried. This will probably either get ignored or removed, but I dont know where else to look for help. But I seem to have gotten myself into some trouble. Long story short- I was doing some work, nothing illegal, for someone and they have since , so it would seem, jumped ship on me. Basically I put up some money to get some work done cheaper, so I could make more of a profit. It worked well and I had no reason to think I'd get into this trouble. Known this person for over 3 years now. If this person doesnt get back Im screwed.

My question is, how could I send someone an email to know whether or not they received it? Any help at all would be very much appreciated. At least if I knew the person got my emails I would know they were ignoring me. Thanks for reading. Again, I am sorry for even posting this.

Gah, I must be feeling much more horrid than I thought, normally I'd have just, you know, used Google. Thanks for that, and not telling me to gtfo and... use Google. :) I will give it a go. There was actually a time that I recall being able to look into my email and see if it was read, forget which service had/has it. Cheers.

Man, I am reading its not working for Gmail. This is what i was afraid of, which is probably why I came here first...

If you setup Microsoft Outlook you should be able to request a read receipt. There might be an easier solution out there though.

Not every mail clients and services support read receipts. But, if you send it as HTML and embed an image, you can see if you had a "hit" (this all depends on the mail client and if it loads images/the user allows it to load images, HTML enabled, etc). It's a technique often used to get readership figures of newsletters, IP addresses, etc.

^ I was about to suggest a tracking pixel or image like grav6. I am sure that there are tons of places to track an image with various free analytics. I use piwik to do it all the time, but you have to install that on a server. If the person is hiding from you though... good luck. I've been through that before. If you find out they opened the email though, it doesn't really put you any further ahead, it just confirms that they are dodging you.

If you don't mind me asking, what is it you are needing and what consequences are you facing? No need to answer that if you don't want to, just curious as I am sure others are.

First and foremost, did you get a contract signed? You should always get a contract signed if you do work, especially if payment is later rather than sooner. But since you've known this person 3 years, I assume you bypassed the contract.

What I personally would do is:
    1. Get a contract signed (I suppose you can now skip this step)
    2. Send an invoice when work is complete that indicates interest will be levied on overdue accounts
    3. Upon no response, send an update indicating that interest is now being levied on the account
    4. Send another e-mail threatening to forward their account to a debt collection agency

You can bluff the last one if you want, but there are services out there that will bombard the person with collection notices, so you could take it that far if you wanted.

Firstly, I just wished to thank all who responded. You've all given me a bit of advice that I will not let go to waste.

Now, as for what this is all about... basically, and this is pretty sad...

Sob story goes like this: I've not had full-time work in nearly 7 months, and I've not had this happen since I started working at the age of 16. Anyway, saying more than I need to really. A came to a friend with an idea to get him up in Google, which worked, apparently. It's nothing new. Simply put: Create email accounts, he paid me $5 each. What I needed to do was create the accounts (which I outsourced to friends at $2 per email), then I used these gmail accounts along with the youtube channels, which I made "band channels", added the needed info in the channel profile, ie URL, and on quite a few of his videos, he made first page and held it, within about a day on some. The videos I made were pretty well done, too. I matched the music with his niche, etc. Its all fairly simplistic, I know. But it did work, 100%.

That was, believe it or not, my main source of income for at least 3 months. I would make upwards of 80 accounts per week. All verified.

Sorry for the tl;dr. Im just not used to having to worry so much about work, cos I have always worked hard, mainly tile install/masonry. All this is new to me, as of just 2 months ago. Also, I just now realized I made within the 4th spot in my location for some very , very good keywords. :3

That is why I am here. Some I have learned from this site, with the plethora of information available. I'm just desperate to make something work here, with something. Also, I made today more in a few hours with AdSense than I have all month. Sadly, being so stressed and unable to focus due to all this, my site(s) are in a bad state. They look like rubbish, most of everything is not done right. So I am basically just winging it right now until , I am praying, this person turns up and lets me know that he didnt mean to avoid me. Highly dount it, considering even when I send him a text via email, it comes back saying cant be delivered, and his cell phone says he is not accepting calls. Guess thats that.

Lol I do appreciate the advice, sir. But it is not a business, but an individual.

And, sadly, this person has friends who could hack their way into my 2 sites, as well as get my AdSense account terminated. He would do this if he even thought I was trying to do anything to upset what he is doing. Not to say I'd consider wronging someone, I'd not. But he would surely interpret it this way. I just do not have the resources/connections/money to even consider this, to try and get anything from him this way. I'd be ruin for sure.

Definitely sounds like the guy is purposefully ignoring you. Either that or he's dead.

Why are you screwed though? You were making $400 a week max and $160 was going to others. Not exactly the most profitable business if you ask me. Still it does suck to lose any income so I can sympathize.

How old are you? Why not get a real job? I know, how horrible! I think there is a certain appreciation you get for money by working minimum wage jobs.

I'm 23 right now. As for work? I'd take anything, and please do not think I have not tried. I cannot drive, seizures. With each seizure it is a year I must wait, without exception.

Without a way to drive, this drastically cuts down my options. Many, many companies have shut down, or only hire so many.I know what it is like to not only work a crap job, but sleep in a bread box outdoors and steal bread when the truck drops it in the morning time. I know what its like, there more than enough experience in my short years to have been humbled many times. Not looking for a hand out here, that I must make very clear. Simply guidance, just like everyone else.

And to top it off, when I was 17 years old I was locked away f, with a charge of 17 counts of B&E during the night time-which makes it worse. Even McDonalds has turned me down, and yes, I have tried. I have been to many places more than once. I have made it my job to find a job. Same ole sob story as millions of others. No opportunity there. And believe me, I am a very hard worker. Hell, I'm straight off the boat from Ireland. We drink hard, and work 4 times as hard (cept on Sundays).

There, that good enough to convince or you need more whining from me? lol I did not wish to turn this into that kind of thread. I apologize.

My advice on this matter is to just amiably part ways with this person. You just have to move on in this situation. If the other party decides that they with to contact you, they will. If you are asked to provide any further services, then you do not until you receive previous payment. For this reason alone, I try not to do as much work anymore for personal friends as it can and often does get a little messy.

I feel the pinch too as I quit my job of 6 years several months ago and income is a little tight at the moment. Instead, I took my previous experience and am now putting it to work for me in the arena of Internet marketing. I was working as a car stereo installer (don't mind sharing my niche here) and I am creating quality unique content for review based sites, Adsense, Clickbank, etc.

My suggestion to you would be to use your previous experience as a tile installer and monetize the masonry niche (think home repair/improvement blogging). You have already learned from this past experience and it is time to take your eggs and put them into other baskets!

    Good luck in the future!

You know, I was just speaking to an old colleague about this just last week. Asked me what i was doing for spare money (spare?), and mentioned I was trying to learn all this. He had suggested just as you had- take my knowledge of masonry/tile and possibly create sites based around this. Hm. I do have experience with the aforementioned, but I wonder if I can find one of these small "starter sites", I guess? Perhaps something with some content, or even a theme geared around this, ready for AdSense. I could easily bang out quite a few articles for these subjects every day, heck I'd type until my fingers bent backwards, if thats what it took. Thank you for the suggestions, sir. I will take action and let you know how it goes.

Oh I forgot to ask, could someone please point me in the right direction? I have a site that is, well, looking very rough right now. It is making approx $10 per day, or it has since it started to generate, but I am afraid everything (keywords, etc) is not done properly. Guess what I am asking is, is there a service or something that a noob could understand, which gives details on what needs to be done to improve? i will list my site if need be.Wow, that was quick! Got some guidance on where to read up! Awesome!

Thank you, BHW. All this, even if it doesnt seem like much, is doing a lot for me right now. I'm starting to become VERY motivated right now! :D (No, I am not on drugs)

    In the sandbox. Again.
Have you tried posting on Craigslist offering the same type of video placement to others? Unfortunately I can't really use this service myself.

PM me some URL / keywords and I will add your site to my DripFeedLinks account.

Hi! Thank you so very much for your reply. I have no tried Craig's List, but I shall try it, thank you for the idea! I will also try to put together a gig on Fiverr. Though I suspect theres a lot of competition for such services, lol. Good, I love competition. It can only make one try harder! And thanks again so much for your willingness to help! I have sent you a private message!

I look forward to learning as much as I can from this site, and, eventually, helping out any other new people! Oh and I have spoken to a company that I worked for, a tile company, and offered them this service. I have a meeting Monday! :) This could help me out very much!
