Yep. Let's take a step back for a minute. He's marketing a half naked guy to a bunch of straight males with no interest in seeing a guy like this and it's working better than a half naked girl does... If that's not pure genius/skill when it comes to marketing, I don't know what is.t0mmy you should get a job at some multi billion dollar corporation.
You sure can create a buzz and a ton of free advertisement![]()

If you like Tommys brand that much you're gonna think a baboons asshole is "genius".
Going from half naked girls to half naked men is a pretty drastic change demographically speaking. And to take risks like that somethings not working to well in the first place.
When I think of "genius" marketing I think cleverness and consistency. Like the Gieco Gecko. You'd never see Gieco go back to the caveman cause the caveman didn't create brand trust and loyalty like the gecko did. But now people know their brand. People respect their brand. Everyone knows the gecko. That's marketing "genius".
I know there's a small pool of people who think stock models are clever... but I'd imagine there's many more who don't.
If I'm buying SEO from someone on here (which is rare) I want someone who can think beyond tits and abs. Cause SEO by nature requires intelligence. It would be like Acer or Toshiba using half naked models to sell laptops. Doesn't make sense. If I'm looking for porn, clothes, watches, supplements, cologne, alcohol, etc models will do. I don't care. But business? Technology? Is that really a smart way to brand yourself?
Whoever that works on, I can't assume it's a highly educated demographic. Educated / affluent people have the money. If I had a really good service and wanted repeat business, that's the demographic I'd go after. The services I've seen blow up on WF ... were all selling results. To me, that's what SEO is about.
Take the headline, "The #1 PR Service Wants To Send You On Holidays, Ibiza, Cancun, Bali & More".
Are we selling timeshares or SEO?
Would that headline attract your more or: "[STILL KILLING] 950+ Page 1 Rankings Delivered & Counting"
Or something more simple like, "Client Gets a FREE License To Print Money?"
To me that appeals much more to peoples desires. It's specific. It's targeted. People know what it means. It oozes confidence. Your clients are your best sales people. That's what and who you sell.

You say a lot without saying anything. Have you not seen the controversy threads lately? They are directed at t0mmy's ads, he's playing along and he's banking hard. This is all without your approval, imagine that.
Well unlike these other people, I agree you're at least partially right. Your example of the gecko is true, however that was a leap of faith. Whether or not it succeeded was left up to chance. Additionally, that becomes something tagged with the company. This half naked picture of a man is not something to brand his company with. He's using it as a way to stir up talk, controversy, and attract attention. Obviously, no one is clicking on it or talking about it because of the aesthetic appeal of the ad. It's the sheer boldness and originality that is bringing attention to it. I see this like the whole Alex from Target bit. Target was suddenly being talked about left and right and they had a huge boost in sales, solely because a small picture went viral. Similarly, in our tight-knit community, this is something that is essentially attracting the attention of many members because it's so ridiculous. This won't bring long term success nor will it be something that will be kept for very long. But undoubtedly, this is (at least in my opinion) a genius short term method to shine a spotlight on his ads. Who would think to market a half naked man to a bunch of guys, I mean honestly, give credit where credit is due. Knowing t0mmy, I'm sure this whole "commotion" wasn't something left up to chance nor was it a joke (although it is funny). This is an elaborate marketing technique that works. If you like Tommys brand that much you're gonna think a baboons asshole is "genius".
