My backstory:
After 2 depressing and arduous years of med school, I gave up and came back home to "find myself". Last month I got a day job at an international logistics/shipping company and started doing freelance writing gigs on the side (I was thinking to get a freelance writing and translation business going). Anyways, I chanced upon a gig writing marketing posts for some Facebook page, which led me to start researching internet marketing as a career alternative (most translators work for peanuts).
To put it mildly, the discovery of SEO has been a major "eureka!" moment for me. I'm so happy to have found this amazing database!
About 10-15 years ago my dad got involved with white hat SEO ("building sites", as he always called it; I used to think he was a webmaster), and in less than 2 years he got up to $6000/m, which was even more than he was being paid as a mechanical engineer at the time. Even after he completely stopped maintaining his network of sites (he started his own business), the ad checks kept coming in for another 3 years!
I know the SEO world has become quite a bit more complicated since then, but I believe it's still relevant and the ideal way for me to break free from the unspeakable terror of 9-5 jobs.
