Hi guys,

Need your help, I'm getting destroyed by spam, XRummer I think is the culprit. My site is http://BizForums.co.uk, over 3,000 members have been created in less than 24 hours I've now prevented them from signing up unless moderated but they are using the accounts already made.

Any ideas? I'm sick of deleting and banning as they are using proxies/other accounts.

I have custom question for when they sign up but other than that nothing, this is my first vbulletin site.

Thanks

Let me know if you are ready to have an experienced vbulletin developer look into your issue and configure and utilize the proper components to prevent your spam.

Moosey, drop me a line on Skype, shane.parkins1. I'm fending it off at the minute but it's getting to breaking point, I have just removed over 200 posts in the last 10 minutes, Speak on Skype.

You should make more security to your forum by adding general knowledge questions or any type of games to verify accounts.

yeah, adding knowledge questions should help for sure, had a friend with the same issue, and it fixed it for him

Yes common knowledge question works.

However you'll get the occasional email like this:

HEY BRO I TRY SIGN UP FOR YOUR FORUM BUT HAVE PROBLEM! WHAT DO YOU MEAN "What is the third word in this sentence?" ?!?!?!?!

I've got some manual questions in there, I'm going to delete these posts and shut it down for a few....it's the last 24 hours has gone crazy.

Try searching for a visual captcha or drag and drop captcha for your forum.

I've turned the ability to post off until I can get this sorted before the server crashes - as this is peak for my other sites.

1. Use Recaptcha
2. Dont Let un-Activated members post
3. Hire Mods
4. Use a difficult Sign Up Question.
5. Block Those (Russian & Chinese Ips & Emails) using VB mods - So they cant signup

puzzle captcha or some custom captcha; if you go for custom captcha, I would load a question as image rather than plain text

1. Dont allow new members to make new threads before they make their first reply to existing thread
2. Dont use recaptcha/questions/etc all these are too easy to break for bots and are too annoying for users - instead send email with personal code needed to activate account

Ok Spam-O-Matic is starting to prevent them from posting it's just the traffic, it's going crazy, they made 3,000 accounts and I managed to stop them making more now when I delete the account they just use a previous one, I've banned about 400 accounts. I never thought how hard forums are to run...

Did anyone just get an idea to offer spam protection services to forums just after unleashing a massive xrumer blast? I definitely didn't.
