Not my story, but a friend of mine had long rock n roll hair way below his shoulders, unfortunately for him, same as his father he started going bald at 18.. 
2 years later he completely shaved his head and grew a beard since then. We're in our 30s now and he looks like a mf viking. Would date both versions of him.

start taking DHT blocker supplements. It works. It may/may not bring back the lost hair but it definitely stops hairloss. It saved me! Been taking it for 3 years now.

I'm taking minoxidill but it only stop hairloss too. I'm planning on getting hair transplant... sorry guys but I don't want to get bald

yeah, but before I told him to do a testosterone test. Because after 30's it start to reduce more.

Taking supplements for Hair loss/Hair Growth isn't a wise decision. These supplements come with side effects. Try to find a natural way or accept reality.

DHT-Blocking shampoo+Minoxidil will be helpful.
Blocking DHT in it's entirety in Men will cause more problems healthwise. DHT-buildup must be blocked in scalp via Shampoo.
Finasteride got some weird side-effects, better to leave it out of the equation if one can not handle Depression well.
