Okay, noob question and I beg for forgiveness if I'm an idiot on this one.

Can someone please explain how social bookmarking works?
Do we sign up on the social bookmarking websites and just bookmark? Do we have to submit any content or what?

use bhw search, this question has already been answered one hundred times over. Also google it too.

All you have to do is go to a social bookmarking site, sign up and start bookmarking. However, it does get more complicated though, like making sure its do-follow and indexed. That's why you need to search bhw and use those suggested sites.

Social Bookmarking is obscure and counter-intuitive, and a good subject to have a conversation about. The wikipedia doesn't really mean much. Someone could post a bunch of "social bookmarking" sites, and then what?

Yes, I know what social bookmarking means so that Wikipedia post was useless to me.

but I have no idea how to utilize it as an internet maketer is what I'm asking.

The link is useless because you did not read it well enough. You should read from "uses" all the way down. Perhaps I should have been more clear.
If you had read it, you would understand a social bookmark is just a bookmark on another playground and why it works as it does.

I could have put lists of social networking sites but that is pointless if you don't understand why you are using them.
You can use those networks to create backlinks or for social promotion as I call it so even if it is no-follow it might have some use.
Social promotion to me is when you find a way to make a customer find you without a clickable link, for instance when you put a shortlink as a watermark to promote your website. Social promotion does nothing for backlinks but it still generates traffic, the reason you wanted those backlinks to begin with. Backlinks is long term though.

How to utilize this?
There are several methods posted, I am too lazy to look for those, sorry.


*Disclaimer: I use the term social promotion in that way, it probably has other meanings too so that's why I explained what it means to me.

1.Bringing some targeted traffic.
2.To get d0follow or sometimes nofollow backlinks.

Yes you signup on social bookmarking sites and simply enter your site's title,url and description to bookmark. You don't need any content like articles etc.,, for social bookmarking. All you need is your site title,url and description.

Thanks a lot for the information, this is exactly what I needed not some bullsh*t "use the search function" dumb newbs telling me to use it when I already have and it didn't provide the answers to my question, which they didn't read either.

i agree searching will not work for you all the time, you do need people to tell you exactly what you are looking for. You have got the perfect description of Social Bookmarking given by the nice man.
