I have a domain with high authority and decent ranking, and I'm thinking of creating a website on a new niche.

Should I create a page at old domain and try to rank that page or start fresh with a new domain, as both niches are different?

I think that since the old domain has high authority, I won't have to work as hard to rank a new page, and for new domain building authority and everything else would take some time.

if is the old domain and new page in same niche go for it , but if you want to build page on old domain but different niches then I suggest go with new domain

yes both niches are different. Thanks for your suggestion

if you have to work on micro or Nano niche then you should go for new domain because it's easy to rank for micro or Nano.

OP, it it's only one page, I think you should only stay woth the old domain because it removes website setup costs - timewise and labourwise. Also, added benefit of SEO power.

Yes that,s why i want to use the old domain, but it,s not one page, I think we'll need to create multiple pages later on, because the niches are different and it's difficult to rank all the keywords on just one page.

But, what if we create a separate section on the old domain, like a 'sister site', to keep our existing audience engaged while attracting new visitors? Thoughts?

If both niches are different, I would strongly advise you to build a new website from scratch. You'll require fewer backlinks than your high-authority site to rank your new site since it focuses on a specific niche.

For example, to rank a page focusing on the keyword "backlinks," the site in the business niche would require a lot of backlinks pointing to the page, whereas the new site whose niche is "SEO" would want very few links to rank the same page.

Also, Google started giving the highest priority to niche sites rather than generic high-authority sites after the last year's update. So, a niche site is all you want to rank faster with minimal effort.

Thanks You make a great point about niche sites getting priority from google. I was thinking about leveraging my old domain authority but now I m going towards starting fresh with a new domain

You can link with a good high authority link / post to that new site/domain, from your current high DA one. But definitely use a new domain for a new site/niche.
You don't want to have low relevance on your domain, and if you actually have people on the site(s), you DEFINITELY don't want to confuse them.

They're different niches, get a new domain for the new site. Unless there's a seamless manner you could incorporate the second site niche into the old site.

If you create just another page on the old domain, should it rank, monetization and expansion of said monetization would be limited.

Get another domain for the second site, if you could get an aged domain, do so.

I think you should work with a new domain. It may take some time, but since two niches are different, I suggest you work with a new domain.
Since you have a good authority website, make a link from your old domain to the new domain, and you can easily get the new domain first on Google.

But, what if we create a separate section on the old domain, like a 'sister site', to keep our existing audience engaged while attracting new visitors? Thoughts?
You need be clear in branding both the niches and yes it can engage the audiences while attracting new visitors.

Go with your existing domain because it already has a good reputation online, which can help your new page get noticed faster without having to start all over again

It won't be a good idea to post content on your established website which have nothing to do with it. Sure. on short term you may be able to rank and bank but Google these days can consider one bad page as a sign to completely ruin your money-making website.

Start with a fresh domain to be safe and if it's a micro niche it shouldn't be hard to rank any way.

it might be helpful with existing audience, but it'll dilute the main site focus, confuse users and can be impacting on organic search ranking. now the choice is yours.

If the niches are too different, it’s better to go with a new domain. Mixing unrelated topics can confuse your audience and dilute your SEO efforts.
