There are dozens of threads here about aged domain names, but, to summarize, they're useful. There's also the occasional time where you pick up a valuable domain name (porn.com) for a song because of lack of renewal, so yes, there's money to be made, though it's not going to be a lot unless you work your ass off (keep a two year rotation with a few hundred good domains, buy any single-word keyword ones you find for cheap, provide backlinks, etc.)
