The content looks great when they’re filmed but the moment I try to preview the reel or after it’s uploaded, the quality goes down a lot and I’m left with something that looks as if it’s been filmed using a potato. Any tips on how to upload better quality reels? It’s not impossible as I’ve seen reels that look fantastic.

If there’s something I need to be doing in pre, let me know that as well.

I also have the “allow higher quality uploads” turned on so that’s not the issue.

Cheers.

Sounds like a compression issue.

Try to render your videos at 1080x1920 before uploading (as that's the resolution Instagram will compress your videos to), as well as keeping the file's dimensions as low as possible.

Are you uploading them from an android? Try uploading them from an iPhone or even better a laptop or a PC because iPhones are optimized for instagram and PCs are not prone to compression issues. In short android devices are worse for instagram.

I was using an Apple device for sure (@xReminisce can vouch for that) but it was interesting to know that there’s no compression issue on a PC. I will have to try that out too.

@Followlix mentioned that the resolution -> compression might have been an issue and I feel it has gotten better once I started filming from within the app but I’m willing to try uploading via a computer too.

Cheers gents.

Even i have noticed this and had made a thread about it long back that time also, people said to use iPhones.

I would love to know the difference between PC posting and phone.

How are you going to upload reel from PC?

I’m not sure yet lmao
He said it’s possible. I’ve yet to try it myself haha

I‘ll keep you posted though. ;)

You probably shoot clips at maximum quality, and for this reason istagram reduces the quality of clips to the minimum, do not shoot clips in 4K quality, try 1080P

Uploading using a PC/Mac has the same issue with android.

OP uses meta business to post your reel.

Have anyone tried to post using the IG app on Mac ? The outcome should have been the same as the iPhone version since both run apple chip
