IG posts per day?

I am a Twitter guy with a roll-over presence on IG that I have not utilized. With nearly 8k followers on IG I have done nearly nothing with it since it's creation two or three years ago.

So yesterday, after a year of idleness, I posted 12 pics in a row (within 1hr) theme related. In turn net lost of 17 follows.

Did I blow up followers feed?

What are you IG best posting practices? How useful are hashtags? How many pics per day?

That is a bit much for me. 5 is max.

I would usually post 3-4 pics a day spread throughout the day. Mass posting will just turn off your followers. I find hahtags to be very useful just don't overdo it and have like a million tags

The maximum amount of tags you can have is 30 anyway.

Was just making a point that too many tag will make it look unappealing

I agree with you nharnia. If your hashtags out-number your content, it just looks tacky. 30 tags would be waay too much

It depends on the niche. Textpost accounts can post 20 a day and people would like it. Other accounts that are more niche are fine posting once a day, or even once every few days.

I do textpost.

12 of these in a row netted me a tiny loss with 8k or so followers.

It's a fun game trying to figure out what gains and what loses.

Once I figure out what my audience wants, then I can pump up the follows via Twitter.

Seems you have some decent room to mess around with in regards to finding appropriate posting times and frequency. If you had success with Twitter, I'm confident you'll do fine in Instagram as well - perhaps even better. Good luck!

I agree as well. With mines, I post 3-5 PER WEEK. Not that much but it's enough to build some interest and engagement. In my case anyways.

In the beginning I agree that you should post more, 5 posts a day being the maximum.

As you grow, I would gradually slow down the posting and come to 1-2 posts a day.

I recommend using all 30 hashtags in the beginning so you get few more likes because when you're small every likes counts, and deleting them after 5-10 minutes because they're usless then anyway.

Leave just one or two that are tightly related to your niche.

You can even try to develop your own hashtag that not many people are using and dominate it.
