"If you can code, you can make money" - is it real?

I have been coding for around 6 years now. It doesn't give you an automatic pot of gold as non-coders will often like to tell you.

I would say the easiest way to make money as a coder is to offer to make marketing bots for other people. Marketers are really quite desperate for competant coders as it is a very specific thing that most mainstream coders don't have experience in and also often won't touch if it isn't completely whitehat.

I have gotten so many offers for this but I always end up turning them down because to me it is too much like having a boss and 'normal' job; having to answer to someone, working to deadlines, having to deal with the shitstorm of customer satisfaction etc. To me it is a compromise and only a plan B strategy for me that thankfully I have never had to go down.

The better way, if you can wait 6 months+ is to learn HOW to make money and code your bots for that. Took me several years of no earnings to do that. First you do the methods detailed on here manually until you are making a couple of bucks consistently then you scale it with bots.

So there are 2 skills which are separate really, the marketing and the coding. If you want money fast then take jobs from marketers as a freelance coder. If you want money and independence too you have to learn the marketing side of things as well yourself which takes time.

For the content my twist(as I can call it twist...) was not to use API, because I choosed very specific niche, so I made a simple bot to scrape some blogs. I thought the content would little less used in the internets. I guess I was wrong.

So what I get from you guys is to keep doing what I'm doing and just and one by one ideas to see if they work and if they work just to automate them. I have some experience in this area. Coding skills usually translate into earning power, but you'd better have some knowledge of the marketing side of things so that your skills can be a valuable tool to help yourself and others solve problems, and problem-solving skills must be valuable.

In order to make money on the internet in long term, you have to be very skilful in at least one of this:

-Coding
-Digital Marketing/Lead Gen
-Teaching
-Sales
-Video Content Creation
-Writing
-SEO

Or

-Specialized skill that not many people know about which solves real problems

You don't have to master all, just choose 1 or 2 skill thats in line with your natural ability and make sure you get very good at it.

If you really can't, then just work offline. Theres nothing wrong with that.

Not everyone is cut out to earn money on the internet.

You need to know what to code & where to sell.

If it was like just knowing to code will make money then all Dev's around the world would be banking hard.

Just read the method mentioned in OP.
Nothing wrong with it there are lots of sites doing it.
But I think the key to that method is niche selection.

You can even find sites that just copy the question & most voted code from stackoverflow.
These sites are indexed & they rank too.
I personally did this with Quora in 2018 & flipped it for ETH that I am still holding .

As you mentioned me I'm replying as I might be concerned Sorry for the late reply, I haven't been here for a while ...

Yes I got some negative returns on my subject, I understand ...

I don't want to seem condescending but from my own experience, and also from my experience on BHW :
- Many members are expecting to be spoonfed with a "making money" manual : First, that was not the point of my thread, Second, maybe the intent was just to help some coders to make money using their brain ... In practice that wasn't a guide but just some hints.
- API's are a great source of data, and guess what : we're in the big data era ... Some will tell that you won't make any bucks from data, I'm not this kind of people ...
- Furthermore, many people will say that this method is dead ... If you read bhw carefully, all methods are dead from a certain POV but surprisingly some are still making money from them using their own twists (that might be the point )

Now, referring to your first post @Yapaz :
1 - Nowadays ExpiredDomains is almost dead as everybody is trying to catch decent domains ... I've been lucky enough to purchase hundreds of decent domains from this source (But I've also been buying shitty domains).
2 - Not so hard but just an API is not enough
3 - The basics if you want to run hundreds of domains and handle cron tasks
4 - Here is the magic (in correlation with point 2)
5 - Once again the basics of any website

Ultimately, as it seems easy, succeeding in reaching those five criteria is not so easy as it seems ...

That's just my advice and contribution on this subject ... I might share my story later on bhw as I moved a bit from IM those days
