hello,guys!
if my site use something from wiki,will google punish me?
for example : if i use the wiki's paragraph about carrot in my site,will google punish me?

A very small amount of duplicate content is very common on all websites. Don't worry about small things and focus on a bigger picture.
 
Borrowing content from other websites may seem like a small deal but it is something google may penalize you for. Better try and spin the paragraph you borrowed so it seems original.

It depends on the total ratio you are using on your blog. if the copy content is very low ratio means there is no big problem.

Haha, sounds much like the whole story of SEO.
 
IMO don't use the content from other sites, it may harm your site.Google always looks for content, so don't take the risk.:cool:
 
According to Google you need at least 75% of your content to be original to not cound as dublicated content. Just check how much you quote from wikipedia and keep it under 25%.
 
As other said depends how much of Your content is copied from other sites, if it is not so much, then it is ok.
 
It depends on how much of your content is duplicate content.

If your 'duplicate' text tend to be copied by other sites, it might have less of an impact (it also helps if the total dupe content is low percentagewise) compared to 'borrowing' fairly uncommon niche text.
 
Even authority sites create posts with large amounts of quotes, so dont worry about it, as long as its not over used
 
Spend a few minutes and rewrite it. Otherwise, link back to Wikipedia.
 
Hey! You could specify the source of that paragraph, or simply change the words, keeping the main idea.
 
You should be fine with the less duplication percentage. My suggestion is try to avoid duplicate content. Since, google wants to show users the best possible search result.
 
if its a small portion of your website then you have nothing to worry about. However if you only have 3 pages and that's one of your pages then you're in trouble.
 
Well if you are using it for reference from Google or wiki, they won't mind but if you copy their whole creativity and put your website name in credits than they will not only penalize you but also may disappear your website from google for ever, so be at safe side and try to write simple so it may look good.
 
If you use it as a quote and mention the original source, it should be fine. Google will understand. thats why so many curated content websites are doing great

Cite? Please show us all where Google has said "you need at least 75% of your content to be original to not count as duplicated content" pretty please cite that for all of us here and I will happily take down my site of 100% RSS feed posts that ranks.
I mean except that isn't even what Google defines as duplicated content, so I would LOVE to see the source.


OP, if you don't want your "link juice" oozing all over wikipedia's face, then cite them as a no-follow or unlinked reference.
Google the phrase Content Curating and read a bit more.
