Main thing you must keep to and stick with if you go down the original content route is to make sure your consistant.
If you say 1 -2 articles a week - stick to that, dont do 10 articles one week and then nothing for 2 months - wont work as well.

The thing about backlinks is everyone here seems to think it has to be all blackhat. If you mainly focus on producing quality unique content, the linkbuilding will work itself out from all the shares.
