If a backlink is not shown in the Google Search Console

That means I am not benefitting from that backlink, at all? That's what my logic says. If it is not in the Search Console, that means Google is not recognizing it so you don't get any backling juice or whatsoever. Or... Google just doesn't show you all the backlinks it is actullay recognizing, in the Search Console. So not seeing a backlink in the Search Console is not something to worry about given that it is actually indexed by Google.

So what is the concensus about this?

If your link is not indexed, then you'll not have any value from it. It is well known that GSC is not showing all backlinks. Indexation is what you need to care about, not partial G reports.

Google console shows only a small fraction of backlinks.

Make sure you get links, index them and ranking increases.
The ranking is the ultimate criteria you should trust.

Search console does not show all your links.
As long as the link is indexed, you're good to go.

If site:www.mybacklink.com , shows up as cached or there is a record. It's legit backlink.

There's plenty of libks pointing to my sites that aren't appearing in GSC. The jump up in rankings can't be a coincidence.

Don't worry about them not appearing, focus on high quality links instead.

Google limits the number of backlinks to appear on console. So, you only have few backlinks to see over there but it doesn't rest of the backlinks will be completely ignored, not at all!
Each links has it's value or devalue to a website. If you don't see it on console, still, you don't need to be worry about.

Thanks a lot for the replies guys. It seems we don't have to worry if a backlink is not showing in the Search Console given that it shows up in the results when searched as "site:sourceofmybackling.com".
