The whole way the method worked, Was because you followed a tonne of high PR groups on identica, which then transfered PR to your profile, which then transfered to your site.

But the first link in the chain has broken. Links to your profile from groups have gone no follow. The link from your profile to your website is still ****************. But that isn't of too much use nowadays, because your profile will no longer be high PR.

I saw a page that was page 1 with a few backlinks and like 10 were from identi.ca doing exactly this method. so i think it still works

I got page rank 7 for one of my site using this method.But since there was no content on that site,my site was slapped by google.But still I am planning on pinging the site after updating.

pyronaut is exactly right, the method worked so great because of the high pr you could get to your profile and then transfer to your site. Because people spammed the hell out of identica, the response from status net was to eliminate the pr value of the profiles.

Anyone that thinks that identica isn't a no follow site should go to a profile page, view the source and do a search. You'll find that all the subscriptions, subscribers, and groups are no follow. For those that apparently don't now how to search a page source, maybe you could take a look at this announcement from status net

That doesn't mean every link you put on the site will be a no follow. Links that you place in your messages are not no follow, but the messages don't stay on the main page long enough to do you much good. The link you put as your homepage is not no follow, but it is just one link on a low pr page, so it also doesn't do you much good.

All of the links on the profile pages to your subscriptions, subscribers, and groups are no follow now. So what does that mean? Well the power of identica was that all those links between the groups and subscribers was creating high pr profile pages. By putting a link on your profile you could push some higher pr linkjuice to your website. By adding no follow tags to those links it has nullified that benefit. Placing a link on your identica profile isn't going to help you now anymore than some other random backlink you might have.

Use the BHW search tool to do an advanced search. Search for identi.ca and select "search titles only", you can find a lot of threads about how identica was being used. Do the same search again but select "search entire post" and you will find many more posts from people trying to figure out why identica not working anymore.

The post by VitaVee that the OP was asking about got moved to the Jr.Vip forum because the method was being abused so badly, but by then it was already too late. All you would find in there now though is the final messages in the thread complaining about the method not working and quite a few negative comments about the people that abused it so badly.

i tried it and even spread it out over a few days and my account got zapped. Identi.ca is on to it and is looking for new accounts that follow a bunch of users and groups at once. My advice is to follow users and groups a couple a day and spread it out and make it look natural. Just MHO.

This change by identi.ca only marks the beginning of the end for them. So they didn't consider this before they even started the site? If you don't like the open nature of the web, then get out.
I mean, where do the restrictions stop once you start?
