K so i decided to go with joomla for my redesigning project of my well ranking hardware site.
Problem is that its an affiliate site and i only have 5 pages. So how can i increase my pages? Ive thought of adding a blog, but what will i write for such a niche? The niche is usb drives btw.
Also, does adding a blog really improve ones ranking? What else can i do within my site to improve my ranking?

im already doing that.

and thats off site. I want some on site ideas.

Thanks anyways :)

You could add video reviews, a forum, newsletter, and other things like that.

Another thought is that you could add a section of software that works on USB flash drives (for sale or free) that could help your user have something to put on the drive that they buy from you.

set up a message board with sef urls and scrape relavent content from yahoo answers, there are a few no longer supported scripts floating around that let you do this

i had to push out the data to phpbb2 then convert to phpbb3 and then drop it into my joomla fireboard, am working on fixing that to make it automated - but it did work and gets reasonable traffic for one of my hardware related sites it added about 400 pages of content

also take a look at

Code:
googlealert.com

i often reformat the info and use that in my sites too...

hth

You can also generate videos, one per page in a "Video Help" section. Demoing how to use the drives, etc.

Create another section with blog articles and videos showing USB Drive applications (wikis, time trackers, etc.) and make em fill out a form (of which you get paid for think affiliate offer stuff) in order to get the downloads.

On, and on, and on....

I would go to Amazon, eBay, NewEgg, etc. and see what the best-selling USB drives are, and then I would create one page for each of those products. In your page's <title> and <h1> tags, make sure to put the product name AND its part number. It's ridiculously easy to rank well for part numbers. The traffic that you will get is obviously less than what you'd get for more general keywords, but this traffic is much more targeted, and once you have hundreds or thousands of part-number pages out there, it will pay off.

While this process is tedious and boring, it works extremely well for e-commerce sites selling physical products with part numbers from the manufacturer (don't use part numbers, if any, assigned to the products by the distributors -- these are essentially worthless for SEO purposes).

TIP: When composing your title and h1 for a product, don't use the same wording that Amazon uses for theirs. If you do, Amazon will outrank you. However, if you craft your titles using keywords that you get from Google Suggest, it's possible to outrank Amazon. You could also get keywords from the Amazon search box (similar to Google Suggest) to see what people are actually searching for and use that rather than the "official" product title listed at Amazon or the manufacturer's site.

Also, does adding a blog really improve ones ranking?

Merely adding a blog won't improve your ranking. You need to update the blog at least once per week (preferably more) in order for it to have any SEO value, and your posts should be SEO'd as well.

also offer downloads of good free software for usb drives, or a page that links to the dls. u can put adsense on those.

take a look at

Code:
templateplazza.com

and the estoreplazza template thats a cool template that ive customized to use with my hardware store

as opposed to using virtuemart i actually create individual pages (soon im gonna have this automated) but i also add in youtube videos additional stats and lightbox images

i usually add these few lines near to the price to push sellers into buying...

In Stock: Usually Ships in 1 to 2 business days.
Very few left In Stock! Product may sell out - ORDER NOW

also take a look at curl and scraping to add extra content to your site :)
