Ideas for "Money Sites"?

I always hear people say they have multiple money sites, but I'm confused what people do for their sites? I've explained a few times I embed TV show episodes and place ads to gain revenue on my websites but I seem to get a lot of backlash.. What are some other money site ideas I could do instead?

You need to pick your niche first, then you need to decide how to monetize it.

So is the basis for this, and what other people do:

-Create a small site with "ok" search volume like 'dog tricks' or 'dog haircuts' and hope to get like few hundred views per day on a site that can rank easily, then put ads on it hoping it will make like $50-100 a day and do that for like 50 sites?

Depending on the kW volume, it won't be necessary to have 50 sites... Only one.
Also, there is plenty of ways to monetize your content, not just banners (CPA, PPI, PPD, CPM, affiliation, etc).
