hi mates,
I don't know if this is new or already discussed...
well we all agree that domain typos is a prominent area for making money, (basically this happen when the user types a wrong spelling for a site he want, then he jumps to another weired website full of ads... here the money comes )
this area is taken by smart ass domainers (almost all good domain typos) but the largest area is when users get error pages because the misspelled domain is unregistered (domainers can't register all typos they only take the best ones )
where do these pages come from since the domain is not registered?
simply that's the job of the DNS server
I'm not gonna reinvent the wheel, explaining what is a DNS Server it's enough explained in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domain_Name_System#DNS_servers
now as you might have noticed or known the browser takes a lot of time contacting the regular DNS server and waiting for response, so even if you have a super speed connection , getting the DNS Info is prerequisite to load that page and that's a very common issue
now imagine that you create a DNS server providing a faster alternative to the default DNS server and tell people about it and how to use it....
what's the benefit? I bet you figure it out
take over all unregistered typos
take over all not found pages and error pages
provide registration for non-registered domains
....so on
I know that would be a major project to implement but just to discuss ideas and open up our minds
