[IDEA] Streaming + Slack

Hi Everyone,

I noticed a few people here have been getting some success streaming sports matches. From reading and observing other methods; most do either a content locker or ads, etc... basically dependent on a third party network for payment.

Is there any reason why you wouldn't create a paid slack community and share the streaming link through the chat?

My idea is this:
1) Create a Slack channel that has a paid subscription (or VIP subscription) where the live stream link would be shared
2) Drive traffic to a landing page (from whatever source.. be it instagram, facebook, youtube)
3) Have a call-to-action on your landing page to sign up for slack to gain access to the streaming link

You can automate this with a slack bot that would announce the streaming link when the sports match becomes live.

The advantage of this is that you would be able to build a steady passive income since subscribers would be paying monthly, and you don't have to depend on an ad or CPA network to pay. You can setup the subscriptions through Stripe.

Any reason why NOT to do this? Risk of getting shut down, legal issues, DMCA, lawsuit ...

It will get shutdowned fast if you share links on there. Even discord is shutdowning channels who share illegal streaming links (Cricket streams is an good example).

Bummer, can't you delete the link after the event?

To avoid being shut down all you gotta do is have a bot PM the link(s) to each member of your slack community, instead of posting clear text links in the public channels. I'm part of a game of thrones streaming discord server that was taken down ~1.5 months ago at the request of HBO for this same thing and this is how we solved it. Haven't had any issues since. Another option is to use QR codes for links or encode the links some other way.

As an avid online streamer of sports, I can tell you that there is a reason we stream online - Because it's free. This won't work simply due to the fact that there are tons of other great sites for streaming sports that are free (even subreddits dedicated to it) so why would someone pay for it?

Also even in the very slim chance you're able to drive enough traffic for this to work, with sports streaming being very illegal you would most likely be banned and shut down by slack before making any type of sustainable income.

Icey Dan, your argument is valid. It's true that given there are tons of free sources for streams. However, those come at a cost of invasive ads, popunders as well as poor streaming quality.

There's a handful of users who would rather pay a small amount for a good quality stream without the rubbish.

Hence the existence of paid IPTV sites.

However if you only watch sports, you might not need all the channels that come with an IPTV subscription. It would be suitable for someone that is looking for a one-time stream and doesn't want the hassle of searching through stream links where half of them are either dead or filled with shady ads.

The kind of buyer that I would be targeting is the impulse type, instant gratification seeking buyer. Such buyers are not uncommon.
