Don't be too easily offended by something like this. A lot of interpersonal communication is normally visual. Your facial expression can make something appear harmless (a joke), but when typed out in text seem heinous. Not saying this was the case with your post. It just is very hard to see what is in peoples heads in internet forum posts. It could also be preemptive to stop a fight break out in the thread.

It was a shock @BassTrackerBoats mate, when I saw that notice I felt like utter shit, I felt people like yourself on the staff would think I'm a bad person.
Never in my entire life has anyone implied I am in anyway racist. I could go into a long litany of reasons I would never be racist, but that has no relevance to this.

All I can say is I'm reeling from the shock at the moment.. waiting for my heart to stop pounding.
I will take your advice and leave this behind me, now you have explained the facts.

From my own experience and I’m sure plenty others, the mods aren’t here to judge you. They’re simply doing what they are supposed to do.

Well I did not see it, but whenever I read "I Have black, hispanic, other race friends" etc. I cannot be racist ....it is an old story.
Now again, I have not seen your post but keep in mind anything that can offend a person not for what they chose to be, but how they were born is just not right, so even if it was an undertone of it , just not funny.

I deleted the comment rather than issuing a warning which should make it clear that I don’t consider it a major issue or a reflection of your character.

I don’t have a habit of explaining decisions either, but I don’t want you to feel like you’re not welcome or can no longer be a part of the forum because of that, so please carry on as normal - no harm done.

If a similar issue arises in future I’ll take note and use the “keeping the peace” line.

Some people can take some comments and view differently or misunderstand so you are a good mod.

@aturningtest just chill a few days, you mis understood it. Even I sometime have a different view for some comments and can misunderstand a comment and just fire for nothing.

I feel stupid now for the thread, and I realise now that I overreacted.

We are living in a time where certain words have great significance when it comes to implying the nature of a person. That is why I responded as I did, not because I thought I had been in any way racist, but because it felt implied. And therefore, labelled a title I did not believe I deserved.

Plus freedom of speech does not apply to this forum; it only applies to your soapbox and personal blog’s, and in those places, it needs to be defended with your life.

The matter is closed as far as I’m concerned, cooler heads have prevailed with a more persuasive argument.

So, because you are not a racist, you must assume that the other person made a mistake.

And more importantly, do you actually CARE what that person says or thinks?

This episode shows that over-sensitivity can go both ways. Modern forums, and especially big social media, have "community standards" or policies that are often structured to over consider people who "feel" offended or bullied, at times beyond the common sense context and facts of a specific post or thread.

Moderators have to address those complaints, but should also understand those on the recieving end of a harsh judgment may also feel offended. The forum's moderation is being evaluated by its readers and contributors every bit as much as the moderators are reviewing the forum comments. The evaluation, and accountability, is a two way street.

I appreciate that the mods remove posts to keep the peace. With such a large and diverse membership, opportunities to offend must crop up with regularity. It's incumbent on all of us to learn from any removed posts and then move on.
