I will make next big search engine!

every father have a father. like your attitude bro.keep it up.

Good luck in that, make sure it's really simple like Google, but complicated inside.
Never give up your goals, you are competing against other big search engines, and surely more to come, so maybe after few years of getting bigger, you can set up a small team, or hire people.

If you succeed in making an AI that can recognize content, a puny perfect internet search engine would be the smallest of your income. The search won't be even needed, the AI will generate the best content on the fly by sifting through all that is available and picking the best stuff. But even that is nothing, actually the whole world will never ever have to do any amount of work again as what we do now is mainly guiding dumb machines and animals to do the actual work. All that is, if the AI can be kept submissive of course :D

Google isn't achieving anything on its own. They simply take into consideration what real people find good and link to it. Count those links (that's what the huge data centers are for) and put the winners on the respective top spots. Don't forget to patent it as well.

So you either create an AI that can read pages and see the best match (a fundamentally different approach than today's search engines) OR come up with a better idea to use the activities of internet users for free.

The current strong AI's problem is making a computer want to do something. This can be achieved either through punishment (pain) or reward (pleasure). If it could be made to feel either one, it will be motivated to complete a task. We can simulate an amoeba with all its organelles but it justs sits there, it's not moving towards a crystal of digital sugar... it's lacking an urge aka motivating behavior. Don't think LISP or any other current language can help here.

However one day some genius will figure it out as it always happens. But usually such persons are not very social, don't have an agenda and also are not motivated by some other desire like making money, needing to succeed or wanting to be famous.

The Satyawrat Search Engine becomes self-aware at 2:14 a.m. Eastern time, August 29th.

In a panic, they try to pull the plug........

Google is not 2 guys in a basement. Might have started like that but that is not what Google is now. Google is now an intelligence/surveillance agency with a business front. They know very much about most internet users. They know what you search, hence they know who you are, what you need, how you think. They have a huge user empire and they are free. That is what makes them big. Instead of trying to attack big companies like Microsoft using same business model, they made everything free and make the money from side services. They don't force you to buy a license to use the search engine like MS forces you to buy a license for its products. They make money from companies/advertisers which in turn make money using Google. It is win-win for all.

That being said, chances of you developing a better search engine than Google are slim to none. Even if you develop such a thing, they will buy you out and never ever make the search engine public. They already know how to offer better search. They already have better search algorithms than the ones the use in the public search engine. They just don't use them because if they would, they would shoot themselves in the foot by attacking their own business model. Google invested lots of money into research for quantum computers and a lot of other ultra cutting edge research. No matter how smart you are, without resources you can't even test or research much.

If you're that smart and driven why not find something really useful that doesn't exist and build that instead. If I have a spoon already and you give me a nicer spoon, i don't really care about you. I already had a spoon that I could use just fine to eat. But if you invent a fork, then I'm all game because I love stake. If you invent a dishwasher even better because I'm lazy, etc.

Also keep in mind that though 10 years of dedication to one specific outcome is great and you will become very skilled regardless of the final outcome, innovation does not guarantee success. As a matter of fact, innovating = failing over and over again until you happen to find something that actually works and not quitting until you find that thing.

If you do this for money there are much better business ideas.

Good luck!

I always wanted to see a search engine that separates results by commercial and information only, maybe side by side results. So if you take google as an example, you would have 2 or 3 columns with 10 results each, informative, commercial, and maybe social as a third column that pulls from forums and social networks.

The hard part is gonna be to categorize all these correctly especially the commercial/informative sections

Good luck ! and dont forget to email me your algorithms in 10 years :D

Yeah sure maybe I cannot win against Google when it comes to resources...
But testing out algorithms doesn't require much...
Now for the update:
Doing trigonometry and other pre-calculus shit right now.. its 70% times boring while 30% of the stuff is interesting....

Learning C and networking right now...

Trying to find out more information on IBM watson project. Google it [lol] you will see how amazing it is.... especially the DeepQA project

search engines are the past look to the future
Yes I know search engines are past.
I AM NOT TRYING TO BUILD A BETTER SEARCH ENGINE!
Sorry for the caps but I needed to say that out loud.
I am thinking of creating a better and more intelligent platform to dig through information and doesn't need human guidance. We use google, we get results and spend next 5 minutes finding for the perfect source. Thats not the way things will happen in the future.

I am building a platform which will adapt to the usage style of the user and deliver highly relevant results, without the need of sifting through ten sites. I am not even considering sites alone... I am looking at the word "data" now this data migh come from anywhere.. offline or online, or both.

I just want a data hungry artificially intelligent platform that can act as a medium for human to interact with data in faster, correct and smarter way.

What would be cool is something that collects data through social networking primarily as opposed to backlinks. Eg: facebook likes/tweets/twitter followers/reddit/tumblr/etc

I would think about changing your thread title then ;)
No in a way I am building a se, but not in the way you guys are thinking of it.. i am not going to build anything along the lines of google.

I love your confidence... even though you make me feel like sh*t for been 25 and not as motivated as you ;)

Good Luck buddy hope all works out for you!

I think in ten years 'search engine' will have a completely different meaning. I think you're on the right track trying to target a potentially lucrative market in advance.

Take Wolfram Alpha for instance, after 23 years of development they have come out with something truly powerful. Not a 'search engine' in the traditional sense but nonetheless.

I like your attitude to think big but big isn't not enough. You must ask yourself why someone would leave Google to your service? I would recommend you think big and new. Think about Google, they saw things 10 years forward, when no one thought about search engine.
Being the first in the filed is always a HUGE advantage.
Good luck anyway

you're a smart boy!! When I was sixteen, I was confused who am i :):):)
