Okay, before you start flaming me, let me tell you something:
I am just 16 y old [am not bragging about it], so I have enough time on hand to learn.

I understand almost all basic seo and most of the advanced seo techniques.
I know how google relates content using singular value decomposition on matrix of data.
I know how it uses low-rank approximation technique to reduce the amount of data it needs to process. I know about some other algorithms which it uses to derive other info.

I am still 16, if I have the foundation of the search engine laid by i am 26 [ in 10 years], it would be really great.

I am thinking about going the artificial intelligence way [LISP?], but before that I need to get good at mathematics and programming and creativity.
Black hatting and money making will surely take a backseat and I was making good amount so it will surely be short-term disadvantage but a long term gain.

I just wanted to post it publicly because somehow it makes me more commuted to this...

Go for it bro, I love when people take on the BIG BOYS! that's what's its all about. It shows who's the pit bulls and the poodles

if your successful... G will try to acquire u... do not forget that what pain in the a** once G was... dont get greedy then :D .. wish you luck

Oh shit i will be then 35 :D

well Good luck for you

Google's Algorithm is called PageRank. It was developed by Larry Page when he was studying Ph.D at Harvard. When he was young, he had mentioned to his friends that he wanted to download the whole internet and do calculation on them and produce a result set that will put the important web pages on top. Obviously no one believed him. But see today where these guys are.

You are going in the right direction. Are you the next Larry Page?

Your up against a team of 35,000 college educated engineers with about a 100 billion dollar budget with a brand name known worldwide already.

Whats going to make your search engine better than Google, why would I go to your site over Google.com? If your just going to offer the same service and product, I see your chances of success around 0.001% however if your going to offer something different and totally unique to what Google offers I see you have a higher chance of every becoming big. You have to understand that VERY smart and RICH people/companies have tried to compete with Google and have failed 100% of the time.

Your 10 year goal at least seems realistic and you seem to have some good understanding for a foundation, but you need to think outside of the box, think of something different which isn't currently being offered and go at it full force, find an investor and make it big.

Many billion dollar companies (FaceBook, Microsoft, Google...etc) started from college dorms.

BTW.... Good Luck

What google lacks is flexibility
They are a big corp now. They cannot just go ahead and rewrite things from scratch. They have too much at stake. That is where they loose and I win.

If I make something which uses something entirely new, like high artificial intelligence for evaluating the authoritivness of a web document I can beat them. If my "artificial intelligence" is intelligent enough to judge the cntent and not the h1 tags, then I think I am successful. Even if I do not make it, I will not regret down the years....

Plus in doing so I will gain so much knowledge, that I will have enought to live on...

When you do, please let us (BHW members) in on the ranking secret. We deserve at least that for believing in you. Oh did I mention - I believe in you. ;)

Goes for me too!

btw - top post snoozebot, made me burst out laughing - splatted my keyboard in coffee

(have to clean it again as will have sticky keys AGAIN):D

I like the way you think just one thing don't give up and make short term goals to keep you motivated
good luck

Please answer my question....how much $$$$$ do you have behind you to be able to compete with G. ????
Not much of course, but I can test run it good on small scale it will not take much time to raise $$$$ if whatever I do is worthwhile.... that is again after around 10 years and if I am skilled enough it will not take long to make money.

I have been dabbling with this idea as well. Building something that offers better results than Google really isn't that hard.

Changing users' habits and uprooting them away from gmail and many other tools that Google offers, that is the challenge.

Obviously it would take a massive and genius marketing campaign to make this happen, but if your hard work manifests into an amazing product I don't think you will have too tough of a time finding venture capital.

One piece of advice though. If you are planning on this happening in the next 5 - 10 years, do your research on what the future web 3.0 landscape is expected to be like. You will have to be a pioneer of Web 3.0 and not one of the last trains out for Web 2.0

The guy does not need to invest much of his own money.

Listen:

Build up your skills, get a start on something and then build up a good business plan.

Seek angel financing for your first start up and then when you get bigger seek an IPO with a good Ibank to promote you.

I'm a finance guy so I can be your CFO ala facebook :P
