you need viewers. like 5-10 viewers in a game that has top streamers with less than 1-2k. twitch will pop you up high on the list and you will get walk in traffic.
good mic, nokeyboard sounds. decent webcam if you are using cam and DONT be super clingy to new viewers. say hey and thanks for coming by, but let them talk to you.
twitch offers viewers the dopamine hit of getting a response from a streamer, not vice versa.
oh and by viewers i mean bots

overlays really arent huge as everyone does them. personality is 20000x more important and literally half of the streamers ive seen dont have any.

Honestly; start with YouTube, grow your audience to maybe 5000 subs with funny moments, and other stuff showing your personality.
Then do a first stream event and pull as many viewers as possible to make you rank on Twitch page. Then go from there!
Almost impossible to grow from 0 on Twitch, there's just not a good enough algorithm for it...

I use to stream on my console and realized I wasn’t going anywhere. Ended up financing a computer and camera and just paid it all off this year when I got it at the beginning of the year. Interact with your chat and play games people are interested in. Build a community, make a discord. Best of luck!

Generally most large Twitch people have streamed for a varying amounts of time and they generally get their audience from other avenues such as TikTok, Youtube and Instagram. Try look into gaining some popularity on those platforms from Clips etc... from your stream and then send them to your stream at the end of the video.
