Bad: "Hello, I'm a newbie who does not know anything and I want to be scammed". Especially in crypto currencies.
You can try faucet sites: try faucet and bitcoin with Google. You make micro tasks (watch a pub, make a survey, ...) and you earn bitcoins, a tiny fraction of bitcoin. I don't practice, do I don't know legit sites.
You can mine, but you have to have a computer that would make NASA guys jealous.
There are sites where you can exchange crypto currencies against dollars, but there are fee. You can look at some forums too, in Exchange sections, but you have to be careful.
But, if you want, I can give you 1 Reddcoin for 5 dollars: it's a good deal.
(kidding, but you see, you could have that sort of scam).

There are few sites which are providing free BTC. I have to complete few task on behalf of them. You can earn some BTC through signature campaign. It is a good option for new comers. You can use coinbase.com if you are from USA.
