I Thought Google Doesn't Use Meta Tags?

So a site I built months ago is finally getting some big G action and I was checking some of the data. For at least two searches, the text beneath the hyperlink on the results page, is directly from my meta tags and NOT from the first few lines of text in the article?

I was told many times that "G" doesn't acknowledge these tags, in fact I only put them in because I guess some engines do use them. Any of you guys notice similar things?

I'm pretty sure Google uses meta tags all the time, just not the keywords meta tag.

Oh, I get it. They use it like any other engine but it doesn't have any ranking impact.
 
Meta description if well written helps you to attract more clicks (CTR) in the serp (search engine results page).

He's never claimed that Google doesn't use meta tags - just that they don't use keyword meta tag anymore due to keyword stuffing. Meta tags in general are widely used (e.g., description, author, content type, etc.), and should be used, as stated above.

I wanna negrep you for saying something which is not true(but I can't). You're misleading people. No Meta Description don't have any impact on SERPs at all. The only impact it has, is on the CTR%.

Take a chill buddy.. Why so much hate. I am not selling anything here so what will I get by misleading people.
I have some articles ranking good just because of meta description. So I shared my experience here.
Now if you say that meta description does not has any impact on SERPs then it may be right on your part. And I respect that.
 
I'm sure not everyone is going to have the same results and that is why I love this forum. So many members sharing their unique experiences and insights.

In some cases meta description has a huge impact in serps as well.
 
Meta tags and keywords are key within google rankings. While they say "it's no longer used", it is. The only real reason why Matt Cunts says it's no longer valid is because of keyword stuffing. However, anyone that uses adwords substantially knows that meta description and meta keywords are crucial in getting a high Quality Score.
 
Tihi not even gonna bother. I will setup a case study the next few weeks just because of you guys. <3 No hate from my pov, but I'm sure youre totally wrong in this matter!

I will try to make it as objective as possible. I PM you when case study is up and running. I'm confident META Description have no impact on SERPs at all.

Though some gonna me angry at me for saying this..... :p But it really don't, other than CTR%. And quality score haven't really nothing to do with organic results.

If you do this I would appreciate to hear the results. Especially where I kind of put quick, lame-ass meta in. If it really is going to matter a lot, I will go back in and edit all my pages with better descriptions. I probably should've done it in the first place anyway.

People get confused because Matt Cutts has essentially said that the meta kw and desc tags are ignored, or rather these tags do not influence ranking anymore.

Technically, this appears to be a true statement.

(If you are going to be in this business, you must pay attention to nuance.)

He did not say "The information contained in the keyword tags and the description is ignored."

These are two very different statements.

Remember that the keywords tag, and the description used to be given extra influence vs the terms that did not appear in the tags somewhere else on the page.

Now, if the TAGS are ignored (in the ranking algo), the content will still get read, but since the tag is ignored, the contents do not have any extra influence on the page like the title and heading tags still do currently.

All it means is that the ranking algo does not see the tags on the page.

The contents count as page content, and affect keyword density, but they do not have extra influence in the algo any more.

Why do you suffer if the keyword tag is stuffed if the contents are ignored?

Why does stuffing the keywords in the description hurt you.

And above all, why does your page ranking improve when you fix this?

Could it be that when you fix it, the keyword density falls, making the page more correctly focused on its subject, and the penalty for keyword stuffing the page falls away.

Or is there some other mystic thing that happens at the exact time anyone fixes this problem?

What experience have you had in this matter?

Please pontificate on why it is not so.

I am looking forward to your reply.
 
Google Index complete you post not only meta description
so you have use h2,h3,h4 and Bold and Italic
at that time your website get more searches on top
