I thought finding reliable VA was easy. It's not

I am feeling your struggle... I wish I had some reliable hardworking VAs too. However they are just promising to work hard and endup lazy and trying to trick you while in reality they work for 10 other guys as well and they just cash in

List down your recent messages about how people are convincing you that they are reliable VAs. :P

I'm talking from my own experience in hiring VA's for eBay, product listing, sourcing, order fulfilling and etc.

THIS IS HARD, BUT HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT VA:

1. They are probably from India, Pakistan, Vietnam, Philippines.

They are very clever people, believe me, if they decided to work as VA, they are clever.

It's difficult to find a good one because we are lack of time, to train and show them.( they do understand everything, but they need more time to make the same as we do. they do afraid to make decisions and all we need is PATIENT.

I am not saying, that all of the VA's can fit Your job, but most of them can. which comes to the second part :

2. Your VA is not happy, and making bad decisions, because they don't see the future, or where everything is going on.

Your VA is like any other employee, who needs inspiration, motivation, and a decent amount of $.

If you are not going to show them, "how easy and fast is your work" they will keep saying, that others are paying way more.

Short story:
I pay my VA $0.15 each Listing on eBay
Competitors ( majority ) Pays $0.5 per listing on eBay

I pay way less, just because I personally trained them, with my own technique how to list to eBay ( manually) and prove to them, that they will make much more listings doing this way in a shorter period of time. Then, my VA was happy. He got paid way less, but with the same amount of time - she earned 5times more, than working for $0.5 per listing.

What I am trying to say is that You need to focus on your employees, they are human beings, just like You or me.

3. Do a full-time job, teaching 1 VA you believe the most. Do the best, make it know everything You know, and show her what will she earns if she does it right. then, after some time, ask her to go to her village, city, friends, family and teach them to do the same.

the amazing fact is, we can teach VA a hard way, but if Your VA will teach the same you thought her to her relatives, friends - they know what to do right immediately. this is Golden all You need is 1 Good VA and ask her to recruit and teach other her country people ( ofc you have to pay him/her for doing it)

This is already a great rate - normal ones I see in my Country (PH) is $2-$4 /hr

What kind of tasks do you make them do?

workers from PH are most reliable compared to my experiences with VAs from other countries

however how do you find PH VAs

I agree with this - I used to work as a VA as well with 3 clients from Australia- then I bridged the topic of hiring more VA's to help them scale - I am now the supervisor and trainer of the new lineup of VA's

Start with 1 VA - and train them properly.

I earn a decent amount per hour and only work 3-5 hours a day- 4-5 days a week. More than enough time to put food on the table as well as having more time for my IM Journey.

The most reliable VA is from phillpinies, to be more specific -Phillipnies Moms with a kids - they are super motivated!

Ow... I feel you.

My advice, if possible (depending on the tasks you have), refuse to pay by the hour and pay for specific actions. I don't have the right universal solution, but paying for the watch in my case turned out to be just super ineffective. Maybe 50/50 .

Agencies that resell time of VA are usually CRAP. Better to think of this as finding a remote worker. 6 euros is a good price. For this money, you can find a smart enough person who is capable of learning and developing, especially if their salary depends on it.

I can feel you. In previous company I worked with, they hired several VAs who did well in interview and had prior experience with good portfolio. But except few, they all turned out to be lazy and missed deadline for task repeatedly.

What about Vietnam? I heard VAs from Vietnam are good.

I feel your pain, getting good VA's is like finding a needle in a palmtree...

You did not specify the tasks given. Pay rate per hour may be decent but if the workload is terrible, expect the VA to crack up.
