I don't think everyone hates them. Just the privacy/free software crowd. Most SEOs job is to optimize for Google.

Well, I hate Google but I love Googlers and everytime I optimise my content, I'm doing it for the Googlers because they need to see my content.

I don’t hate Google but I hate the fact that they make us conform to their best practices. Like it or not, an SEO’s job is to game the algorithm, rank and bank, thank you ma’am.
