I started a Mass movement.....

Which town are you in? and whcih school?? I know exactly what you are talking about and I know it is 100% wrong. The teachers do go overboard. NOt to mention the pressure those kids already undergo. Corporal punishment has lead to a lot of suicides and I think you are doing a good job by making the students aware of it.
I am in Gurgaon, the Chairman of the school is some retired army Colonel... :(

Getting a few slaps now and then is good for disciplining a child.
We cant let a few bad apple spoil the whole crowd
Ok, how about this situation:
You didn't write the school timetable on the page where it needs to be and you are slapped?
Your cuff is unbuttoned and you did not realize it and you get slapped.

Something fucked up happens and teachers go around you blaming for it and slapping if required... or she/he had a bad day and vents out on us? You have no idea how schools in India work....

So fucking what?? If he is abusing you people in any way you have the right to stand up against him... Register a complaint if it goes too overboard , go talk to the media. They are a lot of news hungry journalists out there especially local news channels. Write a letter the local newspaper also. These things will definitely help. Good luck mate.

P.S : What grade are you in?

+2
Yes I have decided to include the local media, I have a friend whose brother is a reporter and he has agreed to help me. If the school doesn't stop we will get the financial audit, file complaint for human rights violation... and for stealing taxes...

If the school does not come at terms with us, we will march around with banners telling how the school handles us... which probably the media will cover...

There's absolutely nothing wrong with discipline but people who have no idea how to discipline children without using the back of their hand should not be allowed within 10 miles of a classroom. If my child were being slapped around by his teachers, trust me that I would be down there so fast you would see fire trails. The teacher in question would never, ever lay another hand on a child after I finished with him.

I fully believe that children need discipline but there are much better ways to enforce discipline than using corporal punishment. In your situation I would talk to your parents as well to get some support. If parents and students got together to protest it would lend more weight and credibility to your plight. You could also get a petition going which more students might be willing to sign if they don't have to take physical action.

this is the education system of south asia....that has been grown up for years.......u one persone can't change this system but i think it should be changed. u r welcome to see tare jamin par and 3 idiots both has been made targeting this education system.
btf sorry 4 u.

here's the problem...

people act under the assumption that if other people can do it then why can't i?

this kind of stuff has been going on for years...i.e slavery, sweatshops etc..

i am all about your cause man! but the problem is if it is indeed widespread like you are hinting it is, unless something HUGE happens and you can get the attention of "higher autorities" nothing will change.

I'm not trying to be a downer, just saying that when people do something a certain way for a long time it is hard to break the habit, so to speak.

i bid you hope that it will change..

one thing i have learned in life is that if you seriously want something, you have to go and act on it.

that goes for causes, girls, interwebz marketing etc...

good luck man

In a popular language of Russell peter .. "Beat the MF kids" who misbehaves =))

First they banned corporal punishment in schools,
then they banned parents from spanking their children.
Now we are over run with young thugs with no manners,
discipline or respect.

Beat them I say!

lol just kidding, anyways good luck with whatever you are doing ;)

Good for you for standing up against your system. Never feel ashamed to question conventional wisdom. Those that use physical abuse to discipline unruly children do so more out of frustration than with the intent of bettering the child's behavior. It's a momentary patch with unintended consequences further down the road. I would agree that corporal punishment is the last (and sometimes only) resort to those in charge who aren't equipped to handle the situation at hand. Again, more often than not, it's a lashing-out of frustration that creates a cycle of abuse and an expectation that such behavior (physical abuse) is appropriate during periods of mental or emotional frustration.

What I would do in your position is the following...

These sorts of things are identical in circumstance to war, so read war strategies such as the 48 Laws of Power, the Art of War, etc. Don't rush into any sort of confrontation because it is highly likely you are entirely unprepared. Going against an established institution that is prepared to handle uprising or discent is a big mistake, you will be struck down quickly. It's always the first rule to know your enemy (not identify, but strengths, weaknesses, capability, scope of influence, etc).

You would be well suited to recruit your 30 friends and hold a meeting in which you all agree to purchase a video camera. Record any and all demonstrations of abuse, and keep these records safe. Develop a website (as mentioned), where you would archive this material. Next round of tuition payment, record your encounter for proof of cash requirements. Visit forums that have users in your area, adult users. Find like-minded adults that are willing to co-sign your cause to lend clout of maturity, so you won't appear as whiny adolescents that should be ignored. Your videos will go a long way in building a community of support among like-minded adults. Once you have everything aligned, begin your public campaign using strategies already mentioned such as public speaking, circulating leaflets/fliers, driving traffic to your website, etc. Equip your site w/ features that are conducive to virality such as sharing.

Good luck.

Thanks for the war strategy idea :)
yes we have purchased a spy pen which has inbuilt video recorder so we can have enough evidence to put them in legal problems..

Wow teachers getting physical with kids. How can a society tolerate this? Those kind of people normally end up in the same cell block with all the other flavors of molesters. The neswpapers have a field day too, just check the latest catholic scandals in the USA and Europe. Don't you have a shot at a legal case if it is really illegal over there?

Why not shot vids and send those to ambassadors, charities, watchdogs? Then wait for their reaction and notify big international media outlets. The charity I am donating to is also claiming to sponsor Indian educational entities. They will have a hard time explaining such violence to their sponsors.

Whatever you do, my advice is to stay bellow the radar. Do it anonymously. Student leaders rarely come unscathed out of such things. They are usually slapped with some populist accusation like messing with authority figures, tradition and similar crap and end up convicted or worse.

I see you are a fan of BackTrack. I am sure you know what a little undercover work could achieve.

Thanks your post really made me think...
I was too angry and wanted to go out and say all I want to say in the face to everyone, but staying anonymous is important and you reminded me well.

I will update how it goes on, its night here and I willl go to school tomorrow. Yes, I love backtrack :P

I would partner with a local community group and get the message heard OUTSIDE of your school

Local community groups are not very abundant here, so I think the local media will help spread the world and we can have other students join in... thats one possible way i can figure out...

Corporal punishment is horseshit and is just an excuse for adults to take their twisted frustrations out on innocent children. You don't hit period, end of story, it teaches the wrong lesson to a child.

This is a perfect opportunity to read up on Gandhi and MLK. I dealt with corporal punishment in Catholic school and the nuns were really quite insane. We weren't allowed to talk in the cafeteria and one kid made a noise once. The nuns went berserk and kept us there for two hours until someone squealed or confessed, I never did find out how the kid got caught. Frankly, the Gestapo had nothing on these old hags. Another nun threw a kid down the steps just for being out of line. Mind you, this was grade school kids they were abusing not older teenagers.

So get them but be organized before you make your move. Otherwise they will simply take you down as an inidividual with little or no fuss. Also make sure you have a family lawyer you can turn to.

How about a Facebook page on your plight?

what your doing is very admirable, but be advised that if you are unsuccessful you need to be prepared for the fallout. There is no doubt that when you do this everyone will know who is responsible and who to go after for retribution. Giving people a hard time can be dangerous in reverse.

You don't need 50% you need enough to cause them a problem.

No anger, no violence, just calm civil disobedience. Show them you mean it and you are not going to quit and they will cave.

if some teacher ever touched me id beat the shit out of him
