Hi,

My e-commerce site has a blog, my site offers pagan goods and some of my blog posts cover natural remedies such as how stinging nettles can help certain health issues (I don't claim that they can cure them and tell people to get advice from their doctors), but I don't stock these herbal remedies and at the moment I'm not in a financial position to do so. I was thinking about adding some affiliate links to these posts, to trusted sellers of said products with a link that opens in a new window.

What is your opinion on this please as I cannot make my mind up one way or another and will it harm my site at all?

Thanks for reading.

It will not harm your site, but I don't think you'll rank well if you have affiliate links on every page of your blog.

Try to put affiliate links on 1 commercial page every 8-10 info pages and see what happens (and no, this is not a scientific number, it's just a number that would make me feel safe if I had your site)

Also, I apologize for the ambiguous answer, but I'm confused about this too... A few (2-3?) years ago I remember that sites with affiliate links on every page were not favored by google, but I'm not sure what google's stance on this is anymore... maybe someone else knows and can clue us both in :)

I can't give you an up to date answer on the Google algorithm today but many years ago, I had a very unique and informative niche blog site with highly original new content that was essentially not available anywhere else on the intenret. Each page contained a good 2000+ words including unique images and had an affiliate link. Google had no problems with it. I would suspect that originality and content quality would trump affiliate link problems.

Thanks for the replies @tazarbm it won't be every page, my blog is about different subjects as well, at the moment I only have 4 posts about this in a total of 24 blog posts. I hope that makes sense, just woke up!

@AussieLocalSEOGuy I will give it a go with a couple of posts and go from there.

Thanks

In most cases, it can't hurt if done intelligently
Adding affiliate links to your ecommerce site can be a great way to monetize your platform and generate additional revenue.
