Hi everyone, I don't post much here, but been a member for quite a while. I recently launched a blog to help a family, and I need your help to see if I can get this to work. I told the story about this family on the blog, and at the end I put a paypal badge so they can donate if they'd like to. I've tried a couple of methods to get people to visit, but none have worked. BTW, this is a blogspot blog.

What happened was that I adopted a dog from another family at the SPCA. I actually met the family in the process. They talked the dog up so much I couldn't understand why they were giving it up, and they told me that they've lost their home, the husband has lost his job, and they're now desperately trying to hold things together. They're all living in a motel at the moment. It's a long and sad story, but sort of emblematic of the times. Anyway I couldn't sleep that night because of it, and that's when I started the blog.

I was thinking CL or something like that. I can promote it to a decent ranking in G, but I have no idea which keywords would work best. Any sort of direction would be greatly appreciated.

hmm i think you could send story to some social bookmark place and newsgroup and such where people look for something to read. That would be a start i guess

Offline marketing. Maybe try and get the local press involved.

I can't imagine rankings/SEO helping your traffic... people don't search for "family in debt looking for donations"..

The way I see it, offline marketing in conjunction with press releases/social networking online is the way to go.

Bingo!! Flyboy has nailed this on the head. This will only gather/generate traffic with media driven sources. That said one could try some "blackhat" with say a youtube increaser or some such. But results would be best served with compleeling media coverage. Not sure..but this family sounds like it is one of thousands that face this every week right now.

I know it. I may not be able to help every one of them, but maybe I can help one of them.

Okay, good ideas everyone, thank you :)

Have you thought about sending this family to Oprah? :D

Since I live in a small town, it is easy to rank for my towns name. If they live in a small town/city, try ranking for it. It may get some people to help.

In my state, there are local trustees who have a fund to help families in immediate need. Many states have similar positions, have you tried to contact them? Local churches? Flyers? A donation recept at local stores and shops? Local non-profit businesses? They are usually very helpful with at the least knowing what local resources are available.

Good luck to them and you.

I appreciate your generosity schnibitz.

But you have to face the fact. In this 21st generation where people all around the planet have been kicked, tortured and crucified by scams and moral less hypes especially with the infamous Nigerian scumbags out there ..its not as easy as you think to generate donations online for a family.

But sure, you can still make it. In case you can manage to JV with some people/organizations who have already established themselves online ..I think this could be the best way possible IMHO. :)

Best,

This is becoming a highly competitive niche so I don't think too many people will be helping out with these types of sites. Times are hard all around the world right now and people are going to be capitalizing on the situation. It may sound bad but it's the truth.

Donation are all well and good but people that are in a tough spot really need an action plan to show them how to improve their situation now. As justthinking said, there are many places in the local community can help. If your community isn't set up to help, lead the charge there and get things in place. You will help far more people that way than by building donation blogs. Good luck with it all.

Why don't you get them freelancing on the internet. im sure the wife can write articles and the guy probably has some expertise. They can earn a decent income just by working on stuff internet marketers don't want to waste time with.
