As a freelance programmer, I find the usual way of getting projects a bit time-consuming and not optimal.
Think about it: you go to the freelance site, you scroll through a list of potential projects, you read about them, you pick some, prepare your quote/response and bid. That takes time!
Until you build a solid client base that you can use outside of the freelance arena, you will spend a lot of time trying to win projects. For starters, this may not be a huge problem - since they have to gain experience and the like.
But for experienced, good programmers it's not good at all. As a good programmer (with solid experience and all), I should have a pool of sales folks contacting me about projects I might be interested in doing. Maybe I can pay 25% to those folks or they might even sub-contract me. Off course, those sales folks would need to know that I provide great services and I'm good at what I do.
I wanted to create a system/site that'd do just that - letting salespeople come to service providers with projects for bidding. But I'm thinking it may not work. I wonder if it can compete with the freelance sites. Also, those greedy capitalists are always looking for the cheapest deals - regardless of how much more they might have to spend down the road due to crappy architecture/etc.
So what do you think? Can we find a way to make it work better for freelancers? In a way, it's like a rat race - don't you think? The corporate world should be a rat race - not freelancing!
Let's build a game changer for freelancers - they'll thank us for that.
