Hey guys, so I'm at the point in my new business' life that I am in need of building an email list. Do you guys recommend using squeeze pages, and if so, how? I already have a website and have the newsletter quick signup form on the homepage, but I have a feeling that isn't enough. Also, what autoresponder should I be using? I want to do this without having to use Clickfunnels or one of those programs. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

There are multiple ways to build a email list, depending on Blackhat or Whitehat method.

Blackhat would be to use a crawler and just crawl all sorts of email adresses (like from niche related forums or blogs). With that you can generally build a huge mail list in no time BUT in some countrys (EU based as far as I know) this is not allowed and also people will think you are just a spammer.

A more whitehat would be, if your potential clients would give their mail to you. (what you are also trying to achieve)

An easy marketing trick in order to get potentials clients mail adress is, if you offer them something in exchange.
Like someone get a PDF with additional info about your Niche, but the person can only get that if he/she signs up for your newsletter.

Yes, but please don't judge it yet. I am in the process of creating it, I know it is not done yet lol

I just know that I will need to setup an email marketing system as well, so I wanted to start getting information for that now rather than later. :)

Yes, I got that. But what programs are the most effective? Do I need to create a separate squeeze page? Thanks for the help though!
 
Well your best sorting the site and then worrying about an email list, as in this case the site needs to come first.
 
Squeeze page does a better job for list building than blog. When it comes to list building, the conversion on blog is very low. And Mailchimp and Aweber are very popular autoresponder services.
 
Do you have a unique product to offer? Maybe jsut a gated area on your site that gives access to people in return for creating an email list would go a long way.
 
I put my email sign up in my sidebar, I also have a single popup after scrolling 1/2 way down, very unobtrusive, kinda funny. I got 2x sign ups after implementing the popup, with only 1.5x using the popup, the rest came from sidebar almost immediately after closing the popup. Doing a popup right requires testing, refining, testing some more, more refining, testing, and never being 100% happy.
 
you can create a fanpage, squeezepage, scrape emails from a database if you ever need help let me know buddy
 
a squeeze page is something of the past - very few people are willing to optin to a solo squeeze page these days. If they leave the opt-in squeeze page without taking action, you lose the opportunity to re-capture them with page content because viewers are sent back out into cyberspace. I'd recommend using a welcome mat. A welcome gate is a full screen opt-in image that slides down from the top of your site whenever a viewer enters your site. Though it covers your content at first, should a viewer forego making an email entry, the form disappears and your content is in full view, giving you additional opportunities to build the opt-in enthusiasm.
 
I use mailchimp for my business. Works well integrating it into a site and also can be used on iPad as a signup option for in-person moments.
 
The best way to do this is generating a good freebie/prize behind a funnel.
But give something valuable to grow it, not just peanuts.
