    Hi there,

So... I have an affiliate link across every post on my website (wordpress), which amounts to over 2000. I've now been informed that they switch their landers up every few months. They set up a redirect from the previous lander, to the new lander. However, when the lander switches again, my links will become redundant.

I added all links manually when building each post. and to manually switch out each link would be an absolute nightmare.

My question is, is it possible for me to have a 'Master Post Page' where I can change the link on every post by switching it once in this 'master area'?

I'm not looking for a full solution here, just some basic understanding.

In the future set up a redirect through a site that you control and just link to the redirected site so that you only have to change it one time. (lookup link cloaking)

I use something like pretty links wordpress plugin in wordpress. Then you already have mysite.com/link and just change its destination. You could setup the pretty link, then use a find and replace on your www folder to point to the pretty link.

there;s no easy way now, only the tough one to go fix by hand on each post

as advised, learn to use url shorterner/redirector script for all your links so you can easily edit the final destination anytime you wish through its control panel

Thanks for your responses. So i'm getting that the best solution is to buy a domain, link it to my posts manually and set up a redirect to the current lander? So that when it switches, I can just edit the destination of the redirect?

Basically, although you may not need to buy a new domain for it - it really just depends on what it is and how you portray it.

For example a blog owner who is promoting their hosting might have a link like blogname.com/get-hosting

Which is fine. But if you don't want to seem affiliated with the site for some reason then you will want to get another domain name altogether.

The website is external, so is it possible for me to create a redirect from a page on my site to an external site?

Since you mentioned that it's your website, all the data captured in your post are found in the wordpress database.

If you need a wholesale url replace, like from hxxp://affiliateA.com to hxxp://affiliateB.com, then you simply need to do a sql query and replace the string.

And, if the affiliate url is actually from hxxp://affiliateA.com/abc to hxxp://affiliateA.com/xyz, then it's more tricky unless you have a certain format.

The in between solution will be setup a new directory in your website, e.g. hxxp://www.yoursite.com/track
Then, use the first solution, update all link from hxxp://affiliateA.com to hxxp://www.yoursite.com/track
From there, link from hxxp://affiliateA.com/abc will be handled by hxxp://www.yoursite.com/track/abc
Then, specifically, if there is any change of path like abc to be mapped to xyz, then the .htaccess or a php script under the track/ directory will redirect the abc to hxxp://affiliateA.com/xyz

Of course, if you don't like the idea of hxxp://www.yoursite.com/track, then you can also register a new domain.

    hth.
