I need help Web Design project I got referred to

My Dad had a friend and he told him I created his website, and I did. It's pretty decent site, PM if you want, I just used the theme "THESIS" for free in the DL section.

But anyway, this guy wants me to call him and explain to him and give a price, can anyone help me with this first one. Should I use wordpress and then charge him a flat fee or Free Website, then charge monthly?

Charge him a flat fee for the website, and then charge him a recurring low fee for hosting (and domain renewal if you buy the domain name for him). You can charge monthly, but I find it's a pain to collect, just charge annually and include it in the flat fee for the first year's hosting. (So for example: $500 to build site + first year hosting, then $100 per year for hosting)

Make sure you set up a script to handle recurring billing or you won't remember next year (something like freshbooks or whatever).

you need to be prepared. make sure you do your keyword research or make a plan as to what you think is the best way this website can help his business then suggest it. that way you will be in control of a lot of what gets done and you wont get over your head doing something he suggests that you have no clue about. With that said, its his site so he gets the final say obviously but at the end of the day remember you are the expert and he should listen to your suggestions.
