Hi there,

I would like to do a website for DVD conversion local to where I live. I would like to have a main domain name without keywords in it. I would also like to do work in my 2 local towns. Would it be a good thing to buy those keyword rich domains that include, separately, both town names and get both of these to do a 301 redirect or make 2 separate landing pages that both point to my "main domain"? Some people say having a keyword rich domain doesn't really matter much anymore, some say it is... Could I rank just as high with meta tags and organic results?

Thanks,

Andrew

If it's an exact match domain that's available for your MAIN keyword, yeah, go for it. If they're just keyword rich but the keywords themselves don't have high search volume, it's probably not worth it. Focus instead on creating content consistently and getting high value backlinks.

I have 5 domains for this Video to DVD service site 4 contain keywords to 2 diferrent cities and 1 will be my main business page. The 4 contain all the keywords in the right order and everything. I would have put more info but I was blocked several times from posting. So are landing pages better or 301 redirects better?

Thanks,

Andrew

The way I would do it is:
Have a separate non-KW domain where I have separate landing pages for the two cities, and rank that.
Buy the keyword rich domains for individual cities, create different landing pages, different content and stuff, keep it totally separate from the main non-KW domain site, and rank those as well.
So for each keyword/city you have two domains ranking on the first page, one the non-KW domain and one the KW-rich domain. It will decrease your ROI a bit but it will make you more money.

That seems more logical to me also.
