I need a little help tracking an IP

Hey guys,

Hoping for some helpful advice here.....

Im a newb so I am not sure if this can be done or not.

I am having some 'problems' with someone who is repeatedly harassing my wife with messages and I am hoping to get a location of where this guys i sfrom to determine if its local (someone we may know) or if its just some random far away internet pest......

She said that the IP that shows up on his messages each time has been
68.144.91.250

I need to deal with this douche ASAP!

Is there any way to trace this?

Edit: I did try a few 'find location by IP sites' and they tell me its from a city cakked Calgary, AB in Canada. But I would liek to get a more specific location if possible.

You probably won't get closer than Alberta in Calgary - may be easier to try and trace the email address, post it up and see what we can find

Failing that, send him an social engineering email where he has to fill in his details to get a free gift or something, you'll get his address then (or just try zipcode, that will probably be enough)

Im a newb, so how would I 'send him' such an offer that would get his info? Other than to just type up a lot of crap in an email asking him to send his info - is there some sore of affiiate thing to sign up for and send?

sorry.....Im a newb here and only really dablle in blogs (adsense/amazon)

Interesting. I just got an odd email from some weirdo asking if I'm single. He won't answer any direct questions so I put his email into google and voila, I got this thread.

Anyone got a way to nail this little douchebag? I'm willing to string him along to get more info.

The ISP is Shaw Comm. INC.

Contact the ISP at www.shawcable.net or call the police. Or both.
There are also chances that this is a proxy. If that's the case forget it and move on.

If someone is harassing you contact the police. They can force the ISP to give out the actual persons name hunt them down and arrest them.

Laws vary by region but, I know in the US doing what @OP said is considered cyber bullying and is a crime.

Advice:
- do not respond (they will prob give up eventually)
- do not threaten (this can get you in trouble)
- save the messages for law enforcement to review
- handle the situation responsibly

The law is on your side so long as you don't do anything wrong. The more messages they send the more likely the police can do something about it.
