I want to ask all you kwd research gurus something.

If I optimize a page for "how to get my ass kicked". does it get optimized automatically for "get my ass kicked", and for "ass kicked".
Or does it stay just for "how to get my ass kicked"????

Please share your knowledge oh great minds of SEO.
How does this crap work?

I will donate to the best answer a symbolic $1.
DO IT for the pride of being the best, not for the money.

Thank you Great Members of BHW.
May your site rank higher and higher.

Well what exactly do you mean by optimize a page for it.

If you put "how to get my ass kicked" in the header, and its on the page a bunch of times ( density ) then yeah, "ass kicked" and "get my ass kicked" will be optimized aswell.

As for backlinks and things of that sort, im not sure.

I should ad to my question in this case the same thing but for anchor text.

If I anchor text on a page "how to get my ass kicked". does it get optimized automatically for "get my ass kicked", and for "ass kicked".
Or does it stay just for "how to get my ass kicked"????

Please help me you SMART SEO GURUS :)

I think he's asking that if he uses the keyword "how to get my ass kicked" a bunch of times in his page, does he also rank for the short-tail version keyword "get my ass kicked" and "ass kicked"?

I'm guessing that you do get some keyword weight since that's the whole point of using long-tail keywords in your site, but I'm not sure.

Yes, you'll get ranked for both the longtail and shortailed keywords. When I'm doing my KW research I take a look at all possible combinations that can be taken from the original longtail and use that as part of my decision making on whether to target a certain longtail KW.

    Regards

now if you were to do a search on google you would find out that you could possibly rank for
    how to
    get my
    ass
    kicked

Now not only could you rank for those keywords but that search would tell you that to rank for those keywords in google you would need to post videos with these keywords to all video sharing sites... Hope that helps.

    Yes you will.

If you want to rank for all three phrases you would need to do some link building for the other terms as well as your main one but you will get the benefit of the three phrases within one.

A lot of onpage optimisation comes down to where you place the keywords (i.e. headers, titles etc) and what supporting phrases you use i.e. synonyms, similar phrases etc

then you could use the same suggestions from squelsh to continue on to off site optimization. optimizing articles, blog posts and the like to get ranked for all of those keywords.

For on page optimization "how to get my ass kicked" in title and body content will cover all the three keywords.

For off page optimization, you need to make sure that majority of the inbound links carry your primary keyword as anchor text.

The best way to go is to get ranked for "how to get my ass kicked" first. And then aim for "get my ass kicked" by getting more backlinks with this term in your anchor text.
After you ranked for that keyword, concentrate on "ass kicked". This time you need tons of links with "ass kicked" as anchor text. Also tweek the body copy to include "ass kicked" term.

hahaha, great thread, if you would like to rank for "how to get my ass kicked" then focus on that.

If you would like to rank for "ass kicked" that's a whole other market, and you should focus on that :D
