No offence but you didn’t meet “the BHW developer” you may have met a developer you found on BHW?
Good developers are often very busy. Be clear and concise, think out what you want to happen first, do as much planning as possible before taking up their time. Then read and reread what you’re asking them to do before you send it to them. Ensure it is clear and concise as they won’t have the time or capacity to read it and try to decipher what you’re trying to say.
