In India (most parts), you are supposed to have fixed in-time but no fixed out-times. Either you work hard and get paid, or you work hard and don't get paid...

If you get paid on time (that means, within the next 15+ days past payday), then you're expected to worship the boss and his dogs 4 times a day everyday...

Some exaggeration of course, but you guys should feel that its heaven out there...

Jobs = slavery. Notice how the bad guys in video games are always refered to as a "boss". You essentially get hired to make somebody else richer. Life is too short for somebody else to enjoy the fruits of your labor. Just my opinion..

The problem is that the OP lives in a slave labor camp, where the government has deprived the population of any opportunities to make money independent from the government. Read some of the crazy stories these people have, all the nutty laws and regulations they have to live with. And they haven't got any guns to overthrow their government with, either, poor sods. Womb to the tomb, grinding out each day for the betterment of someone else, live their entire lives completely dependent upon their government. Most of them are so indoctrinated into the system that they can't understand how life could be any different. Their government controls every aspect of their lives, surveils their every moment, and taxes them at every possible conceivable opportunity and they have no choice but to submit to the system until they die.

As long as you're an employee, you're somebody's slave. Now I wouldn't mind being a slave for a nice salary, after all Cutt Matts is somebody's slave too, but If you're salary sucks then it's time to quit.

If you do internet marketing then you're not a slave anymore, and I'm sure you can make more than you earned as an employee with minimal efforts. Plus you have freedom.
 
Even if you are doing online business, you are slave... if you are working in a SEO project, you are slave. It is true for any service that you might provide.
In my theory, if you do not have a product, you are bound to do slavery.. as simple as that...

That sucks. I'd tell them I don't work unpaid overtime, so if they have extra work, it will have to be 30 minutes and PAID. I'm pretty sure there are laws against making you work in that way, so make sure you keep a log of conversations and emails etc so that if they ever did anything stupid like firing you, you could have a nice little earner. Check your employment contract too.

You have the English government summed up..

Although, the only benefit to this, is people (including foreigners, asylum seekers etc..) don't starve to death if they cannot find work.. they are taken care of by the government (actually us tax payers)

Free health care etc..

And you can get a gun licence in England very easily.. just no gun shops on every street corner :)

I mean slavery by having a boss. As a freelancer you don't have one. It's a huge difference between having a boss and not having one.
 
I'm a software developer in Belgium. I work +- 42 hours/week but I got paid for 38 hours. It's normal here.
 
just spend 20 minutes taking a shit every day, take your phone and do a suduko
