The sidebar was always there and there's not much of a difference tbh. I hate the fact that the search box was removed from the top right hand corner though, pisses me off whenever I'm viewing a profile and want to search for something. The only search box/button is the one on the sidebar and the sidebar isn't visible on all pages.
