For all the 12 year children around and for all those Indians who don't care if their country goes to hell. Anna is a social servant and has dedicated his life for the welfare of the nation. He is applying Non-violent principles in his fight against corruption. And for the guy who says ANNA is a slut, I've got no words for him :0

Over here (in Europe), it's just a generic girl's name.

From what Cooltoad is saying, I'm guessing this is the surname of some vastly important and well-respected civil rights leader. A modern Gandhi, even? Am I right?

If so, I apologise for my ignorance. Any earlier comments were certainly NOT aimed at anyone of that stature. I (along with most westerners, I suspect) assumed that this thread was just some silly lovesick bloke babbling about his girlfriend by the name of Anna. (Or possibly Anna Kournikova - in which case, I stand by my earlier statement about the need for urgent medical attention.)

Just have... I googled "Anna + India", and came up with "Anna Hazare"!!! Sounds like an amazingly cool guy!

Sorry. I SERIOUSLY had no idea that was who this thread was about. As I mentioned before, Anna is a very popular girls' name over here in the West.

All I saw was "I love Anna", and assumed it was some ridiculous kid declaring his love for a random girl in the most nauseating way imaginable. (I think, under normal circumstances, that was a perfectly reasonable assumption for anyone unfamiliar with the current political situation in India.)

It just LOOKS (to an average Westerner) exactly the same as "I Love Suzie" or "I Love Kate", or any other girl's name you care to substitute. I would like to reiterate that NO offence was intended to this splendid gentleman, or to his supporters.

CLEARLY this is all down to a geographical gulf. Hazare's fight for justice has not made a mainstream impact over here yet, although having read up on his struggle, I'm sure it will.
