I would not call the scammer the novice in this instance.
FYI for everyone living out side the USA. ALL banks can make international wire transfers. They may go through an intermediary bank along the way but they can do the transfers. CapitalOne is one of the larger banks too.
On other thing, How do you know the guy is American? Everything else he told you was a lie. Unfortunately we have crooks here too.

To the OP and maybe others.....
NEVER, NEVER, NEVER get rid of your only source of income. Use that income to build more. How are you going to start over with no income.
I understand that you were in a bind but you are even worse off now. At least with that income you could live in a tent if you had to and use an internet cafe or library for internet access and still be able to eat and buy your hosting and domains.

Thats the problem with 99% of BHW, everyone thinks "100$ a day" is a FUCK load of money, but in the IM world, 100k a day isn't even a fuck load of money. Theres companies doing multi millions DAILY. You let your greed selfishness get to you, you got into the "OMG Im gonna have a shit ton of $ I cant fuck this up" mind set. Plus WHY would you SELL something for quick cash? LOL This is another thing that pisses me off about BHW lately, everyone seems to think if you have a website doing 1-3k a month that you NEED to sell it for chump change, it's a joke and its pathetic to see, why would you sell something that makes you 2k a month (24k a year) for 9.5k? are you drunk? 9.5k will last you 3-4 months MAX if your being smart and investing into IM, why not keep that 1-3k a month income for something to fall back on, I'd love a site that makes me 2k a month w/o working, I'd repeat it x 50 and then I'd turn that 2k a month income into a 50k-100k a month income. (Yes it's do-able) - Once again if you think 50k a month + in IM is impossible. Quit now. You won't last long

Been there and done that. I lost a lot more than that too. I filed reports everywhere, threatened the shit out of him, but in the end he picked up and disappeared.

Did you even verify that he had that money he was promising you for your site.
Honestly , why didnt you ask for a copy of his bank statement to verify the funds before talking about selling the site.
Seriously , you need to know that most scammers dont have nearly as 10k in cash to buy websites you should of have been smarter and thought about this and definitely verified the funds before even continuing talking to this guy.

you can hire a good hacker to mess with his website but this is obvious a loss-loss situation. Contact the website (FLippa) and report the scam to the authorities.

Well really, you can get your domain back certainly.
Just use logic:
I hope you kept record of your negotiations. on and off flippa.
Yeah con may have use fake emails and ip etc
But in your correspondence, he must have initiated and shown interest in your domain.
Now I hope you yourself have all the proof of ownership of the domain.
Then you can certainly find his hosting company and file a report with all the documents above.
You will have to get the police involved, it does not matter where you are based, they have world wide internet police coalition thing going on.
When you do a whois search on the site, even if he gone private, you will still know his registrar, file same report to them.
Then contact ICANN, file the same report.
All this may take some time and effort on yourside, but if you build a site to a level where it gives you your only bread and butter. You should be glad to do this. All the best.
