For one thing, you didn't watch the whole thing or you would have replied with something along the lines of, "Lowbrow, thank you for recommending such an enlightening analysis of the film! You're awesome". But since you didn't, and I'm forgiving, I'll give you another chance.
Secondly, yes...I think the rest of us all know it's a fictional movie.
There is something called symbolism and it's found in many many things such as books, comics, music lyrics, and even movies. Sometimes, you can learn a whole lot about what an artistic work really means when you understand the symbols that the writer/director employed.
There are some films out there that you open up to a whole new level when you understand the symbols. (Most of Kubrik's stuff, for example.)

The annoying thing about symbolism is that it 's open to arbitrary interpretation by anyone and it can't be disproved. So in the end it 's useless because instead of having 1 meaning, you can go ad infinitum.
Suppose you look at a white painting. What if I tell you it symbolizes the purity of the soul as the cultivation of an indiscriminate amount of good essence perpetrated through innumerable generations in the history of humanity? Disprove that

the problem is choice, where others see consequences i see chance, simply put- its all about interpretation of the situation, love it or hate, the matrix is more understandable if you watch it with an open mind.

Good point about symbolism being in the eye of the beholder - and open to more than one interpretation. That happens. I don't even want to (or need to) disprove that. I'm a lover not a fighter, anyway.
Maybe the better word for movies such as the Matrix, Eyes Wide Shut, V for Vendetta, and a few others would be allegories. They were specifically intended to tell a definite parallel story in addition to the obvious storyline.
Some movies have not-so-obvious allegorical symbols. Other movies are blatant and were meticulously planned out to be allegories. My whole point is that the Matrix is indeed one of those types of movies, the mini-documentary lays most of it out very clearly (but only if you watch it!) and the Wachovski brothers have openly talked about what they really wanted to say with the symbols in the Matrix (in more than one interview). Some of their quotes are given in the link I posted. This isn't even up for debate.
So just go watch that thing, and just believe me dammit. Ya'll acting like my woman when she's feeling stubborn.

jazzc- i am not insulting anyone, just pointing out the obvious- i might see myself as a genius while the next person might see me as a total retard. what i mean, is that everything is based on interpretation of current situation based on your beliefs that you either know subcautiously or even cautiously.
